No, according to the Duncan info, it's for use in brighter sounding guitars, the high end is supposedly smoothed out.
They also recommend it for guitars with maple and Ebony fretboards, and the guitars I'm putting them in (assuming I like the 1st one) have one of each, ironically...

i got the pickup on the labor day sale and got it for 52 as to 75-79 ish. i was going to get the gibson 57 paf i believe and i told the guy what i was looking for and he said you want to go with this one ( the jb duncan) stating that it is well rounded and can be used from blah to blah.Comment

Don't think that the Custom Custom will be gainy like a Duncan Distortion or a DiMarzio SD, but it does have a bit more output than a PAF type.
Of course after saying all of that I've heard a guy get a pretty damn good early Eddie tone using a Duncan JB. :DComment

That pickup may be perfect, you gotta try it...
That combo sounds good to me...
If I were you though, i'd figure out a way to put a Kahler whammy on that jag...
The tone of a Kahler bridge will help you get more towards a warmer Van halen-esque sound in my opinion...and they work GRATE!
It would look cool too if it was done right...
