A question the musicians here about playing e flat
Originally posted by Nitro Express E flat tuning seems to work better on a 25.5 scale guitar than the shorter scales. Probably another reason Eddie uses that scale.
I just copy Ed 9-40 quage strings on a 25.5 scale tuned E flat. Can't go wrong in my book.
I like E flat tuning but I have to raise the action because the strings just feel too loose.
Originally posted by SNIPER My band tunes a full step down and we also drop the E string on top of that for a really low C. Our guitars are set up for that with a really fat gage E string ofcourse.
I was in a heavy stoner rock band called that did that as well, see the post above.
Also, when we did jam on thursday, we performed in E flat, and I didn't hear any complaining, so we'll see. I did mention using the heavier strings, and I will bring it up again. The drummer agreed with me on this as well.
I've always played 9-42 gauge and never have tried anything else. I have a friend who plays 11's on his tele and I pick it up and play it and really don't think much about the strings.
But i play both bass and guitar so maybe that's it. I'm used to playing bridge cable sized strings on a bass.

Niiice...
There's no turning back. After many years of playing my hands got way stronger and it was too easy to end sharp. When I bend up a whole tone I like to feel the string stall in pitch. And if I choose to bend sharp or beyond I like a bit of fight.
And the best thing about heavier strings is the fact that chords intonate and ring truer. Nice and tight.
