I wish I was going to NAMM this year...

This will probably be the second year in a row I'll miss after going (for work or otherwise) for the last decade plus...still feels weird, not going...lol

You didn't miss ANYTHING last year.. not much in the way of new.

There will be a few new things this year, but its been a really bad year generally for the entire industry. Several cancellations and no-shows rumored to leave 80% full this year whereas last 6 years exhibit spaces was sold out.

I only hit up the usuals anyway; besides my friends and former co-workers, I always check out Fender/Charvel/Jackson, Gibson, Marshall (Korg), Mesa-Boogie, Allparts, Seymour Duncan, Dimarzio...maybe a few others...

I go to those also but I'm mostly interested in finding something new and unusual, so I keep 'em peeled for the small guy exhibitors and give the first round a careful walk-thru.

Then it's a quick dash to the car to dump the swag-bags full of crappy literature I'll only read during a rainstorm in the year 2015..

After that, I'll hang and start asking around, asking questions, seeking advice and that type thing for a couple days. I've given guys passes to go and they call me back the following week "hey I didn't see you noplace where were you?" I march that whole joint, the hotels, I go down Harbor Blvd. doing business dindins.. I get pulled off to go see such-n-such playing at some other digg it's a crazy weekend.

Even when I know someone's going its really difficult to meet up being focused on so many things at the same time.

For example, that Fender dinner with EVH: when we got pulled in the back door to that one (cuz the door guys says 'capacity sorry' but we get led around backstage) and saw Ed smoking crack behind that screen with the 3 framed Frankie guitars on stage, I didn't know what was more shocking - the coke, or the Charvel copies.
