Anyone here have any experience with stainless steel frets? My Peavey Wolfgang needs a re-fret and I'm considering going stainless.... thoughts?
Stainless steel guitar frets?

I have them on 2 guitars and I love them. I didn't notice a difference in tone.
My bends are like glass now. -
No, there isn't a noticeable difference in tone, they merely last longer. And apparently they are a feature on the new Wolfgangs.

the biggest advantage is that they have long life. a friend of mine has been using them for years but they have no dent even now. awesome stuff.Don't notice most of my posts are less than 2 lines...

They were only 20 dollars more at Warmoth.
USACG will usually throw them in for freeComment

I don't know how much it takes in the US, though.
at least my repairman charges 50,000 yen(about 550 dollars?) for it (no neck binding, detachable neck joint).Don't notice most of my posts are less than 2 lines...

I happen to think they sound a little brighter, sort of like when strings are brand new, which I don't like and neither did Edward in the old days...
He liked his strings worn in a bit where they sound warmer and stay in tune better...
That was a critical part of the "brownsound" in my opinion...
I've spent literally thousands on guitars, parts, pickups etc. in the past two years and I have clearly deducted to my satisfaction that what sounds good on one guitar can very well sound like shit on another...
In my opinion this theory would apply to fretwire just as it does to every other piece of the instrument...even the trees it came from...

My action is low enough and I dont monkeyfist my frets when I play.
I've never been a VH clone type player although I do a little hammeron nonsense once in awhile, it's not my major repertoire.
That being said, I've never ever had to refret my own necks. I think it comes down to disciplined technique more than gripping your neck like it's gonna fly away from you or something.Comment

I want to check them out on my next neck. Think I may even send it off to be Plek'd. Why not? :DOriginally posted by conmee
