Back on track: The Beer Bottle Organ

A musical instrument made by Peterson Tuners, yes, the organ sound is actually produced by blowing air over the tops of real beer bottles.

The bottles are filled or "tuned" using mineral oil, so it will not evaporate or change tunings during weather changes.

The Bottle Organ concept was first developed in the early 1800's.

The organ as shown is self contained with brass fittings, lighting and is housed in a walnut enclosure on casters.

It includes an air pump controller and self playing device which allows the organ to also play musical tunes unaided, or via keyboard or MIDI controlled device.

This and many other oddball instruments are featured at the site I listed in an earlier post: http://www.oddmusic.com/gallery/

Believe it or not, SNOPES has an interesting article about the first one, supposedly made from John Deere parts at the University of Iowa. Here is the truth...

Video clip shows a music-playing 'farm machine' built at the University of Iowa?

Yeah, there's no fucking way either of those videos are real......even a drummer can see that.

I swear to God Lounge, say nothing.

I owned that actually, it was stolen from me in 84. I got it from a guy who worked at the factory, the headstock busted.

                        It was a 3+3 headstock.

The one I do have now is an 82 reverse-head inline6 headstock, neckthru Honduras mahog w/kahler, no serial number one of the first ones made.

I had the cheapo model in red but sold it a long time ago. Always had trouble positioning it on my lap to play. Definitely a stand up to play shaped guitar. Can't even imagine some of the real crazy shaped ones. Heck, even a standard V won't sit still.

                              I think the old-school reverse 6 in-line headstock looks cooler than the 3 + 3...
