And speaking as a guitarist who plays covers "Rebel Yell" among them, I can tell ya, to play the intro to that tune as he does these days (simultaneously playing the keyboard and guitar part from the record) via claw-picking is nearly fucking impossible...it's weird and poly-rhythmic, and he makes it look easy!

Used to play that tune when my band padded our set with some covers. Never found the intro riff a problem though, it's up there with Ed's as far as ingenuity goes. A fun song to play, fo sho!

I saw 'em headline at the Roxy. Stevens set the place on fire, it almost didn't matter that it was a Vince Neil show...

I can't even remember who the rhythm guitarist was...he may as well have not been there, for all intents and purposes.

Yeah and Idol was never the same without him. Stevens may not have been the greatest rock-riff writer (wow, try saying that out loud three times) but he did come up with some catchy introductory hooks and highly-driven feedback fills that more textured Idol's tunes than just being a loud, annoying supportive-type guitar player resorting to playing a note/solo in between every word Idol ever sung. 'Blue Highway' from Rebel Yell is a perfect example of how Stevens knew what to play and when. Even his bombastic intro for 'Rebel Yell' is sheer genius.

I dig Steve Stevens, I picked up his recent solo album. It's pretty awesome. Nice array of stuff. Some Vai like stuff and a cover of Robin Trower

You know, I like "Bridge Of Thighs" and Trower....but seriously, would that dude have had a career if not for Hendrix?
