      And rock it did.

Friday was spectacular, my live tone has a new texture that can best be described as "grainy".
(Think the intro to "you really got me". THAT kind of grain is there!)

As I'm typing this, I just got back from another gig. Played through a loaner Engl combo again, and that "grain" was still there. Slight case of "can't dial out this fizz" but that's the combos Vintage 30 doing that. (Note to self: stay clear of those speakers... Not my thing.)

Overall: I'm happy. The Super 3 blends very nicely with the Heavy Blues 2 that's still there.
And to get "that" VH I/II grind going, along with a SRV/Rory Gallagher vibe the neck position is always a bonus.

Maybe the S3's a bit too hot for very clean tones, but hifi uberclean's a singlecoil job anyway, IMO...
Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

Dude, that description almost fits the 59/Custom/STK-S7 combo.."grainy". There's this woody thing going on, this super organic tone where no matter how much gain you're throwing at it you can hear the guitar, your fingers, how hard you're digging in - very open and responsive. The 59/C does passable cleans, though especially in split mode. Glad the Super 3 worked out for you!

I'm debating getting a mahogany KnE body for the next project, btw...

            Alright, almost a month later...

After doing some comparison between "the wife" and the les paul (Duncan Custom and Gibson 500T respectively), I noticed a little quirk in the Super 3.
When you hang on to a single note (say, fifth fret on the g-string), it evolves into a warm, fat neck pickup-like tone. As if someone suddenly blended a Duncan '59n with the S3.

Might be just me but I've yet to encounter that anomaly with the other axes, except on the les paul, but that's only with both pickups on.
Or it might just be the DiMarzio "signature vowel" mojo going there...

            Still, it's a keeper...

Dammit, I gotta re-do the wiring... Turns out I soldered the HB2 green wire onto the switch instead of the red...

Hadn't noticed they did... Scottie didn't do NAMM this year, so didn't get to hear about anything new there...
