I dunno...but on that (otherwise) terrific Bad Co. Live DVD from a few years back, during the tune "Wishing Well", he did that routine where you grab the headstock for a similar whammy bar (Christ, I hate that term) effect, and successfully put his guitar out of tune for the rest of the song. He motions to BC guitarist Dave Colwell about the situation, yet struggled admirably through the rest of the way (as you can hear). As a result, even though he played chorded support, he appeared nowhere in the mix during his rhythm parts.

What might have sounded really cool in the garage the first couple times becomes really embarrassing when you pull it in front of people that one time too many, and the screws at the back of the neck say "Enough of this shit" and you are suddenly standing there on stage, looking like you are about to assemble a small clothesline or television antennae.

So...to clarify, when I eventually start a thread about doing a magnet conversion w/ a Duncan Custom to make it a Custom 8, if someone else does it, will I then be accused of "shilling"? Just want to be clear...

Not always a good idea with a bolt on neck. Regardless, as a rule of thumb, I always re-snug the neck bolts with every string change.

Depends. Do you have a friend at Duncan instructing you how to do it? Are they selling Custom conversion kits?

Any gearhead knows this stuff. It's basically the same procedure for reversing a Pup's magnetic polarity.
Pay attention now...
(Loosen the bobbin screws, slide the magnet out and re-insert it 180 degree's (lengthwise), tighten screws... yer done!)

Main difference being that Jay is swapping the magnet (of a dif. strength value) from another PU to make (and equal) a particular model by Duncan...
