    Travis Bean dies at 63; innovative guitar-maker

    Jerry Garcia and the Rolling Stones are among the fans of Travis Bean's electric guitars, made with a solid aluminum neck and headstock. He came up with the design in a Burbank shop in the 1970s and quit making them after five years rather than compromise quality.

      Was Kramer the main manufacturer of this kind of guitar?

          Didn't Kramer just adopt the aluminum necks at one point (like their wooden-necked stuff first came with Strat headstocks in the early EVH days, pre the "beak" headstock as on that one's 2nd neck)? Were they the manufacturers of Travis Bean's designs, or was it a licensing deal? Probably could find out at the Kramer forum...there's some cool VH guitar content over there...
