After the years of waiting, the years of wondering, the years of let downs, the impossible has FINALLY happened. Diamond Dave is officially back with the Van Halen brothers. The announcement was made today at a press conference in which 25 tour dates were announced, and the band stated what their intentions were with this old, but new line up.
Diamond Dave appeared to have picked up right where he left off many years ago as the band's spokesperson. He fielded most of the questions, as you knew he would, and really seemed to be enjoying himself. Overall the band seemed happy, and it was light years away from the cold stares and grimaces of the 1996 debacle. Edward even called Dave his "new brother " and even kissed him on the cheek. Who woulda thunk it??
While many are disappointed that this is not a full on reunion, because of the absence of former bassist Michael Anthony, there are many who are ecstatic. Wolfgang Van Halen, son of guitarist Edward Van Halen, has been dubbed with the bass duties on this tour. He also has to fill in the gaps that will be left by the absence of Michael Anthony's generally superb background vocals. No small task for a 16 year old. I would like to personally wish Wolfgang the best of luck out on the road.
Well there you have it folks. Some of us thought it would never happen, some of us thought it shouldn't happen, and those who did could only have "hope" and "faith."
