    Interesting

Went down to a local, non-chain store that is basically an exchange for used CDs, DVDs, VHS and Vinyl, set up in a flea-market motif (came THIS close to buying an old 45 of Pac-Man Fever, but's thats another story).

This place has old laserdisks, Beta, everything, and quite a selection. It also has new DVDs and CDs for sale as well. Sometimes boots get sold there, too.

Browsed across the Van Halen section in the CD bins, found several copies of every Van Hagar album, no classic stuff (guess people tend to hang onto that) but by far the single Van Halen CD with the most availability was the Best Of Both Worlds CD. The store had eight copies in the bin, selling for $12.99 a pop.

The fact that it's odd that this relatively recent release is already finding it's way into bargain bins notwithstanding, as I was cashing out I asked the clerk why that particular item was going for such a low price (remember, it priced at over $20 when it first came out).

My answer? "I was paying $10 to buy these from people who were exchanging them (for cash or store credit), and figured I'd sell 'em for $18. None of 'em sold. I've dropped the price twice, and have sold one for $13. Now I'm stuck with them. I'll probably end up pricing them for $9.99 and just leaving them in the bin. Two people came in today trying to sell me their copies and I had to pass on 'em."

Thought some of you might get a kick out of that.

    It's truth! It's truth!

If you want an even bigger giggle, ask me how many copies of "Balance" and "F.U.C.K." are at my local 2nd hand music shop and how much they're going for! :D

Well hmm. How hard is it to make copys of a CD? Its freekin simple, anyone can do it. Since people can buy the CD and copy the tunes the stores will not take them back once they are opened. So the only way for people to get thier money back is to sell it to places like that.

These people are no differnt than your common Kazza user who downloads everything for free. The only difference is, these people are getting CD quality stuff, not MP3's.

              LOL!!!!!!!!!

Damn. This brings up another interesting thing: every time I go to a Used CD store, I always see BALANCE, F.U.C.K., OU812, sometimes 5150 and always VH3. I never see any of the six-pack. I almost never even see BEST OF VOLUME 1. I quite often see LIVE: RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW...but not as often as the others.

I mean it...I can't remember the last time I saw the six-pack. What does this mean? Hmmm.

Funny enough, I sold my six-pack once to a used-CD store. You know why? It was the summer of 2000. I bought all the remasters.

what's even more funny and pathetic is, as many times I've been in these type vintage Lp/cd stores thru the years, I swear, I've NEVER even seen a ROTH cd in a bargain bin!!!

I once saw very good used copies of "YOUR FILTHY LITTLE MOUTH" and "SKYSCRAPER" last year in Greensboro for $8.99, but damn, A newly released double disc retrospective of Van Halen's entire career,
and that guy wants to dip the price down to $9.99!?!?

I'll stick w/ Dave and the 6 pack, thank you very much...

OK, now, I've seen YFLM in the bargain bin...once or twice, and only like a year after it's original release...was going for like $5.99, so forth...but I haven't seen it in a bargain bin for years.

I went into my local pawn shop today and just did a quick look-see, wrote down all the answers EXACTLY - no fluctuation here, just the Gods honest truth. Cassettes don't count, as my local pawn shops (there are 4) don't sell them anymore. So, without further ado, here are the results:

                    So, there's your numbers.

Now, I have a question for Tongue in Ass:

So, TNA, your logic is that people buy, then burn the CD, then hawk it at the pawn shop to get their money back? Fair enough, I've done the same. So riddle me this:

IF THAT'S THE CASE, WHY DON'T YOU FIND ANY SIX PACK DLR VH ALBUMS IN THE PAWN SHOPS?

                    Breathlessly awaiting your answer, bub.

                    :D

You can rent "Right Here, Right Now" in our local Library.
Our local Music shop hass all the Classic VH/Hagar shit for sale too. Me and David Van Via usually take the Hagar CDs and hide them behind the Bruce Springsteen section. As far as i know, according to the guy behind the counter, nobody ever buys the Hagar ones as he's never had to Re-Order them, but the Classic VH ones are always going and being Re-Ordered.

I've seen YFLM, ALAE, Skyscraper and The Best CDs in bargain bins as well, going for between $7 and 10.99. The store I went to also has a Roth solo bin, but they're all priced at $9.99 or up.

As far as cassettes, have seen all the Van Hagar stuff along with Van Halen 3 going for $2.99, but every time I come across a 6-pack cassette it's going for $4.99 and up.

Guess the stores know what will move and what won't.

The store I went to has a Japanese import with all the Van Hagar CDs for $99. It's been collecting dust for the better part of a year.
