I was looking over the credits in A Little Ain't Enough and noticed that DIO guitarist, Craig Goldy co-wrote Lady Luck with Diamond Dave. Can some fill me in about Craig's relationship with DLR during this time. Was he ever slotted to be the guitarist for Roth? As a huge Dio fan (though I really dislike Goldy), I found this to be an interesting connection between two legends.
Craig Goldy in DLR's band in 1991?

Anyway, the explanation given for Goldy’s departure from Dio in the late 80s was to pursue “greener pastures.” I wonder was it Roth that was that green pasture.Comment

Viv was the best for Ron, but let's not forget Doug Aldrich who was on a very good CD "Killing the Dragon"... and what about Rowan? Nonetheless, Craig is a great player, Tracy G sucked, and I thought Rockett Richotte was Dave's touring guitarist after Becker... Poor Jason! If you listen to fools

I wasn't impressed with Rowan at all. For months prior to LUTW, I had heard raves about how hot a guitarist he was...then I got the album on the day of it's release and didn't hear shit that really impressed me, either from Ron (which is REALLY FUCKING WIERD) or Rowan...I don't know, I think he was hyped entirely too much for what he pulled off on the record.
He's been retired from the music scene for some years now, hasn't he?Twistin' by the pool.Comment

Rowan dissappeared as fast as he showed up... I wasn't that impressed either... It was a wierd time in Ron's carreer, with a whole new band and all... New Dio rocks ass though, with Goldy... very cool!If you listen to fools

Definately, Master of the Moon is an awesome rotation...Ronnie's been putting out really quality stuff since Magica rolled around.
Anyway, back on track...I wasn't aware of anybody named Rockett Richotte (???)...my bad! Guess I got some homework yet to do...Twistin' by the pool.Comment

Yeah, Rockett did the tour, then DLR got that guy on "YFLM", Terry Kilgore, then after that was Joe Holmes... Joe went on to be in Ozzy's band for a tour... Not bad for a guy from Lizzy Borden! If you listen to fools

Oh, OK...so Holmes was in the band AFTER YFLM then...OK...sorry, sometimes it's hard for me to keep track of who's been with David and when...the band rotates more than a wee bit from time to time...
Holmes only got to record one song with Ozzy, "Walk On Water"...think it was from the Beavis and Butthead soundtrack - sucked balls as I remember...still, he's done pretty well for himself, all things considered.Twistin' by the pool.Comment

MY 2 CENTS
I'm probably in the minority here but I've always felt that ALAEnough was Dave's strongest solo album from cover to cover. I liked Goldy's colaberation with DLR "Lady Luck". I think Dream Evil was under-rated (DIO) and I've seen Goldy with DIO several times (including my trip to the Greek Theatre this coming Saturday night) and always thought he was very good. Always sounded really tight. When I was at MI back in 93/94 Goldy taught a class I sat in on a few times for all musicians that focused a lot on marketing strategies for bands. He mentioned once that he thought DLR was brilliant when it came to lyrics and specifically mentioned some words from Sensible Shoes & Drop In The Bucket. Pretty cool. I'm not a guitarist but from where I sat Dio has always sounded just as good with Goldy as he did with Aldrich. In terms of leads I have no idea though. As stated I'm not a guitarist so I wouldn't know about leads on any deep level.DLR/VH IS JUST BETTERComment

If I can just offer a theory on this, I think Roth was considering Goldy and they may have written a couple of more songs, but he wasn’t really impressed. Goldy delivers lethargic and muddy riffs that go no where. Roth needs a guitarist that is high on Heroin, Speed, and Pixie Sticks.

be a fan... :p:D Campbell is the dude that got me hooked on rock n roll. Never really paid much attention to music, but when I heard his shredding, I became hooked on guitar driven music. From that point on, I kept trying to learn about guitarists and their bands and I finally hit upon Classic Van Halen. Now, I can’t get enough of Dave’s tremendous lyrics and brilliant delivery.
Let me just add that I don’t approve of ANYTHING Viv Campbell has done since River Dogs. It seems like every guitar hero becomes a coward in the end....

I'll say one thing for certain - Vivian was Dio's best guitarist (for the solo band, anyway) and Craig is a hell of a lot better than Tracy G.
Fuck, that guy was worthless, I hated him.
