Does Dave damage his credibility by playing so few of his solo songs at his concerts?

It seems to me that Dave might get more respect if he played more of his solo material at his concerts. The set lists I see for his concerts are usually all Van Halen and maybe one solo song like Yankee Rose.

I think to a large extent this is why some people say Dave is living in the past. By not playing any of his solo material, it is as if Dave himself is saying that his solo stuff is no good.

But this isn’t the case. His solo material is excellent. He has a lot of great stuff to draw from.

There is nothing wrong with playing mostly Van Halen stuff. Dave is just trying to give the people want they want (unlike the Van Halen brothers). But how about 4 or 5 solo tunes rather than just one?

Don’t you think playing more solo songs at his concerts would get Dave more respect?

I will respect Dave for playing whatever Dave wants to play, but yes... I would like to see more solo tunes, and even more importantly, more NEW STUFF!

I doubt if he really cares about garnering more respect, real or imagined.

Believe this, noone compiles the set list but him, and if he wanted to do a FLM or ALAE heavy show everyone would go, "whatever you say Dave".

Would he get more respect if he played more solo material?

      I doubt it.

It'd be funny to see him dedicate "You got the blues, not me" to "his other band" every night though.

So are you saying you wouldn't like to hear at least a portion of that two to three albums worth of new material?

          Not at all,

He could come out and do freestyle rap (spankin' new!) to the "we will rock you" drum beat and I'd still give hella respect!

At the Casino Rama show on November 4 he sang at least 6 songs from his solo career. All were excellent.

Dave knows and respects his legacy. He knows he'll go down in history for "Jump" instead of "Yankee Rose."

Dave has class. The Sisters don't.

I cant see the man worrying about his cred. He's earned my respect by simply having the guts to do what he wants, when he wants. Nuff said!!! :D

That would most certainly be entertaining! :D
Rumour has it that Van Halen have continued in recent years with a new lead signer, but since there 1985 breakup, nobody involved has ever recaptured that spontaneous cheeseburger magic!

Most people who go to his shows are not Roth Army posters, and they are only familiar with Cali Girls, Gigilo, Yankee, and a few might remember Tobacco & Paradise. Most people who go to his shows want to hear the CVH tunes that the VH brothers have either butchered or ignored.

Tending to the legacy of Dave's historic contribution to Rock is cool but as others have said... He needs some new music out to balance things. The same setlist 4 years running with the exception of 2-3 different tunes is just a nostalgia trap that's played itself out IMO... Time to update or go setup camp in some Vegas club and become neighbors with Wayne Newton...
