i know attendance at some places was down but not every band is gonna do well in every venue, but a number of the shows on this tour have done vey well like the Toronto show was sold out with 15,058 ppl asn sales were 1,199,040,the phoenix show 12,327 ppl with sales 929,988,the staples centre 25,173 ppl sales 2,180,595,the continental arena 24,241 ppl sales 1,982,420,worcester's centrum centre 19,602 ppl sales 1,669,570.In Edmonton there was over 12,000 ppl and in Winnipeg there was 10,000 and I was at the Winnipeg show and it kicked ass.But alot of ppl here are only gonna look at the shows that didn't do so well and forget to mention the ones that did.And it wouldn't have mattered if Roth was singing and it wouldn't have brought in any more ppl the thing that hurt attendance was ticket prices.I know alot of ppl who wanted to go but couldn't afford the ticket prices. There is two sides to this band get used to it,some are gonna like Dave and some are gonna like Sammy but sitting around bashing ppl and the band itself on a website isn't gonna change anything,Dave ain't with the band and is probably not ever gonna be with the band again. That doesn't take away from the fact that they made great music with Dave and I have all the cds with Dave singing but they also made great music with Sammy and I have all those cds as well,so go ahead and bash away at me because thats probably what will happen.
a few things about the tour

they never did anything good with Spam Gaygar besides destroying the legacy!
The could've been respected like Led Zepp. dont you see?
But fagar keeps destroying the legacy by being in the band.
Again, if he cares for the band status he should leave now, pronto, presto, forever before is too late. -

Yep I took a look and at one time that WAS Van Halen.I never said I had anything against Dave they made great music with him and if he was back in the band i would spend the money on ticket for that concert as well.Last edited by manonamission; 11-18-2004, 11:15 PM.Comment

Not going to bash, but to say that the shows 'Van Halen' did this year wouldn't have had a bigger draw with Dave at the helm just sounds ridiculous.
It would have been a more highly anticipated and attended reunion.
Would think that virtually everyone who attended concerts this year would have done so if Dave had been there instead of Sammy. Juxtapose that with the amount of people who didn't attend precisely because it WAS the Rothless lineup that was playing this year.
As far as the grosses, Van Halen utilized a guaranteed fee for every show. That means the promoters didn't begin to recoup their money until after that advance to the band, reportedly $750,000 per show at the start of the tour and negotiated downwards to $500,000 per show as some of the dates began to sell soft, had been paid.
You get a 12,000 seat arena at an average of $90 a head (remember, these were the prices at the beginning of the tour and were dropped by as much as 60% in some cases by the time the tour wound down). Some of these shows were unattended by less than half of capacity. Takes around 8,250 showing up just to break even for what the promoter owes the band. Some of the shows with comparable capacities and attendances were priced on average even lower than the $90 benchmark. Think these promoters who lost money this time around are gonna take another chance on a Rothless Van Halen show? Get enough who won't, and the artist fings himself without enough dates geographically close together, which makes booking a tour in the style VH is accustomed to that much tougher.
Dave solo isn't commanding audience sizes beyond 2,000 these days, but the irony is that Dave with Van Halen could have easily turned all those soft Van Hagar dates into sellouts, quite possibly for two nights per venue. Football stadiums? No, but take those that attended this year, subtract the minority that went to see them specifically for Hagar and add on those who wouldn't see a Van Hagar show or even a Roth solo show but would be front and center for a classic Van Halen reunion, and I doubt you'd be seeing tour stats like Van Hagar's this year.
Something special like a reunited classic Van Halen lineup would have been the deciding factor in getting people to invest money in seeing that over other shows. Sammy with Van Halen isn't as special, and not only because of the music, but also because Roth hasn't played live with Van Halen in 20 years. It's only been 9 years since Van Hagar last toured. A long time, but not even half as long as classic Van Halen.Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment

I have taken note of the few reasonobly well attended shows, but the number of appallingly bad turn outs cannot be ignored either. There was even several press relaeses on Van Halen's failing attempts to generate interest a few months ago, placed in the wider context of tour problems for the whole industry.
Most of their shows appear to be played to about 40-70% capacity which is pathetic in anyone's language. And remember, they're only playing small indoor venues. Where's the big outdoor gigs with the 40,000-80,000 crowds?
In desperation, they have also HEAVILY discounted ticket prices and given away thousands of freebies yet still can't sellout.
And to suggest that a Classic VH reunion would have done no better is just absurd.Comment
