Also I've seen similar replies before so I thought I would clear it up just in case some people don't know how it works. When a promoter books a band into a venue (let's say a 10,000 seat arena) he only prints the number of tickets he thinks the band will sell. So if he only prints 7,500 tix in this scenario and the band sells all of them it's a sellout technically although it's not capacity. This is pretty normal in the business unless a band is doing blockbuster business (think Kiss in 96'). The sad thing about Vhagar is that in most cities they aren't coming anywhere close to selling out even with the promoters printing far less then the available capacity for the venues they're playing. I'm surprised more promoters didn't scale down the printing of tickets when word got around they were having trouble drawing. Promoters are gamblers by nature for the most part. They can get burned just as easily as they can make a killing. In this year's case they were torched doing business with Vhagar. When Vhagar played Portland for instance they drew just a little over 8,000 and 13,000 tix were available. However The Rose Garden holds over 21,000 people capacity so there you go. Of course you lose about 4,000 seats behing the stage in most cases but you gain back around 1,000 on the floor so really you only lose about 3,000 in most venues for a normal rock stage. Then the promoter tries to guess how many he thinks the band will sell. In Vhagar's case he thought they could sell 13,000 in Portland so that's what he printed. Then they only sold 8,000, hence the torching of his bank account. And he's not alone on this tour in terms of other promoters. He actually has a lot of company.
      Cheers mate!

That was me raising the issue of capacities at these venues. Thanks for clearing it up.

I checked the capacity for the Bell Centre in Montreal, and for concerts the REAL capacity and therefore REAL number of available tickets is indeed 14,000 for concerts (21,500 for ice hockey). Demand was obviously WAY less than capacity. This tour is an even bigger failure than I already thought.

On another site a fan who was at the show stated that he was a regular at the venue and the Van Hagar crowd was one of the smallest he'd ever seen there.

So, has there in reality actually been any sellouts on this tour? Or have the few sellouts presented actually been sellouts in only a 'technical' sense?

      Hmmm...............
