Saw VH in '82 at the New Haven Coliseum--best show I have ever seen. They were absolutely cooking and DLR was hilarious.
Saw them again in '84--good show but it was a much larger arena and the boys didn't have the same connection with the audience or each other.
Saw Van Hagar in the early '90s and just recently in Seattle. While Sammy doesn't hold a candle to DLR, the shows were good, especially the recent one. Hey, it's the only way to see the band these days. And given EVH's drinking problems, this could be the last time we ever see Van Halen in any form.
Also saw Van Cherone in '98: kinda embarassing--like VH Karaoke. One good thing--he did play a lot of the early catalogue, which Sammy refuses to do.
And 3 years ago I saw DLR live--great, but I just kept wondering: why can't we get the 4 of em back together? Sadly, it's not gonna happen unless and until they get inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and we might see 1 number with the classic VH line-up.
i was lucky enuff to have 2 older cousins who i idolized and tried to be like and hang out with them all the time ,when i was 10 they were 17+ 18 at the the time in 1981 they were getting tix to the fairwarning concert and i basically had a shit fit and begged and pleaded to let me go with 'em only cause they seemed real excited about it ,lol i was only 10 i had no clue what a van halen was ?????but i owe em big time cuz they bought me tix for that show and diver down, and 1984 ,at a place that was just tore down the capital centre oh and sadly i have actually paid money to see van hagar 3 times and they dont even come close to CVH !!!!!!!!!!!!
