Yup. EVH and the Hag fucked it up for Dave. Again.

In a world starved for real rock Brett, who knows?

Billboard reported VH was guaranteed $700k - 1 million per concert.

VH played 80 shows and grossed 55 million.

          That's $687,500 per show.

VH needed to gross anywhere from 56 million to 80 million JUST TO PAY THE BAND. That's even before other associated costs.

That means promoters lost anywhere from 25 -50 million on the Van Halen "huge" reunion tour.

Promoters expected this tour to gross over 100 million. They were wrong and paid for it dearly. Never again will Van Hagar receive Metallica-type money. More like Journey-type money lies ahead for this washed out band.

In comparison, promoters had offered VH 300-500 million for a DLR reunion.

VAN HALEN TROUNCED BY OTHER '80s ACTS

The year 2004 was a banner year for big 80's acts. Madonna, Prince and Metallica all toured on new albums full of new songs. They sold out everywhere and made big money for promoters.

VH, on the other hand, barely came out with 3 mediocre new songs and played to crowds as small as 4500 in attendance and well below 50% capacity in many areas. Ticket prices were slashed, but that still left many empty seats in the vast majority of shows. A few shows were even cancelled.

Imagine, 3 new songs from Eddie Van halen in 6 years time. And the sheep actually compare this guy to Mozart!

Van Halen did as well as they did on a gimmick. It was a gimmick "reunion" tour on the strength of a greatest hits album. In Sammy's words, that meant they were "finished". They indeed are, as the album still hasn't even sold 500k. In comparison, U2 sold over 800,000 copies of it's new album in the first week!

This means Prince, Madonna, Metallica and U2, all huge 80's acts are still huge, viable acts. Still releasing fresh and new music and selling out shows. It also means VH are nothing more than a nostalgia band who rely on their past to sell and tour on... at least up till now as the VH tank is now empty and they have played their last "reunion" show.
