The most bizarre element in the 1996 MTV Awards debacle is that Ed and Alex say that they were embarrassed by Roth's antics as Beck was giving his acceptance speech.

Meanwhile, Beck has gone on record to say he LOVED it. His quote: "That was just Dave being Dave. I thought it was funnier and more interesting than anything I was saying."

So why don't Ed and Alex SHUT UP and simply speak for themselves? It's not their place to say they were insulted, especially if the person who they're appointing themselves to speak for is saying he thought the whole thing was great.

Ridiculous.

ALSO: they're saying that they fired Sam b/c he had a lousy work ethic? But there's Dave saying "Let's go, let's go, let's motherfucking GO!!!" and what do they say? "Baby steps. let's walk slowly and let the rot creep in."

Can't really blame Mike for the fact that none of his 1996 comments about releasing old, classic footage came to pass. The guy is fucking clueless and has exerted the least amount of influence and control within the band, regardless of who was in the lead singer slot.


That whole biz of Ed and Al in 1996 with their post-MVA press statements was just a misguided attempt at PR. Everyone knew they didn't want to cede any control of the band back to Dave. As much as they had bitched about not wanting to do a reunion tour with Roth in 1996/97, it was the souring of goodwill that tanked Van Halen 3 as much as the music, and Ed/Al are to blame on both counts. They would have been better off just doing the tour with Roth in the end.

alex and edward are fucking flip-flop mother fuckers. we all know that. they say that sam had a bad work ethic? wait a minute! sam has put out 4 full-length studio albums and a live album since all of this went down. granted, it's not the greatest music in the world because, hey, it's spermmy we're talking about here! BUT, it's still working. i'm not trying to defend that fucking egomaniac fat ass at all, but facts are facts. and if given the choice of siding with spermmy or alex van mother fucking shit licker, well......that's like being put between a rock and hard place, but i hate that fucking alex piece of shit. how many records have edward and fuck face alex put out since 1996??? if i sould like i really hate alex van piece of shit, it's cuz I DO!!!! that mother fucking cock sucker ruined van halen with that big cocky fucking mouth of his.

Alex isn't even worth the effort it would take to swing the bat at him.

Of course you can find contradictions in everything the Van Halens said. 1996 was just the best example of it, because there were so many lies going at once even they couldn't keep 'em straight.

We hear from Alex about how long it took to get the vocals out of Dave for the two BOV1 tracks (roughly two months), Cherone joins the band in Fall 1996 and it's not until Spring 1998 that an album is released, Edwards Lead Hip Disease notwithstanding. Hagars work ethic sucked, yet it takes 6 more years from the release of Van Halen 3 before any new tracks are forthcoming from 5150. To which the grunts say "Ed had cancer", yet I saw plenty of shots of him on the golf course during that period.

Truth be told the Van Halens got lazy and acclimated to the path of least resistance. Van Hagar and Roth released records pretty much within 6 months of each other post-1985, but after the 1996 debacle Roth started working again. More road work than recording, but it put to rest the bullshit that Roth wasn't able to tour and put out solid live performances.

What has Van Halen given us since 1995 ended? 2 greatest hits, 2 tours, 1 studio album + seven new songs (includes the Twister shit and the newer Roth/Hagar tracks).

Took a decade for that measly output? Fuckin' pathetic.
