    David Lee Roth.

    Summer heat.

    Wicked party.

    Fun.

Those used to represent Van Halen.

Now I think of drunken, slobs, money grabbing, lack of creativity and liars when I hear the name Van Halen.

    Dave or the grave!

      Combination of things...
It all starts with Dave and Ed... There's magic in that combo!

Bring it back, bring it back, bring it back, bring it back

What made Van Halen Van Halen was the fact that they came out and kicked everybodies ass and partied every night and the next day still kicked more ass

                  I'll add this too-

Mikey was far more important to their signature sound than Alex ever was.

The driving force was Dave, bottom line.

He was the quarterback of the team, without question.

                    Stellar thread!!!

                    I like it.

                    Regardless, the answer is Dave.

To offer up a football analogy (sorry, gals) Dave was Montana to Ed's Rice.

Comon RH... You know Al had alot to do with the sound of VH... His symbols were the key to the VH rythem...

That said... I do believe it could all be captured without Al or Mike but Dave and ED are musts! Well... Maybe Brian Young could pull off Ed...

It's all four of them. With vocals, you need Mikey. Instrumentally, Ed and Al. But DAVE is the key. He's the reason I became a fan. He's what I look forward to when I put on a VAN HALEN album.

Sorry Rogue but the 49'ers were EXTREMELY overrated.

They just had a stellar team at the right time.

                              I agree, absolutely!

But, the analogy holds for the time frame...
