"The closest thing the kids have to rock is rap (at least rap circa 1986-1990). Today’s rock just isn’t ... fun. The guys in Staind are complaining about being mistreated by their parents, while Bon Scott and AC/DC were rocking on about girls and their backseat rhythms. The perfect metaphor: David Lee Roth was all about sex. Sammy Hagar is all about luvvvvvv. What a sissy, I know."

Re AC/DC,
So far, their Stiff Upper Lip Tour has been the most successful (inflation adjusted/per show net basis) of any "old fart" rock act this decade. Funny Clear Channel promoted that Tour and did it perfect. They promote the 04 Van SpamBoys and it was an abortion from a promoter's standpoint.
Me smell EVH screwing up the deal.
Oh, and AC/DC has sold 20+ million more albums than Van Halen, in the R&RHOF, and the bands are the same production age.

Justin Hawkins, the lead singer in The Darkness made a comment about this very thing in an interview I watched. The Darkness are HUGE in England and fairly popular here but not headliners perse'. Over here they are the opening act but over there they close the show. Well, Staind or Disturbed opened for them on a European tour and going to the stage he over hears the singer in Staind complaining about how much he hates The Darkness. He says something like, "We're being bood but in the states fans are crying at my lyrics cause they're so deep". Justin says, "I hear this and I'm thinking, if you go to a concert and end up crying, something went drastically wrong"! "Its supposed to be a goodtime not group therapy"!
Not necessarily a fan of his voice but if you read one of his interviews you'll see he has that singular wit like Dave where he can just ad lib on the spot and just floor you.Visit my online store http://www.tripleclicks.com/12395755 or get your own http://www.sfi4.com/12395755/FREEComment
