You wanna know a funny story about Jeff Pilson?

My buddy's older brother went to high school with him...and used to pass him walking home after he'd stop by the middle school to pick my buddy up...and they both used to slow down and throw whatever they had in the car at him (Pepsi, garbage, whatever).

    Take THAT, Jeff Pilson!
    Twistin' by the pool.

          For the record.......

This thread, and the severity of trashing and bashing of Jeff, is EXACTLY why I will NEVER admit to my true identity on these forums [although ALinChainz knows, I think ]

I can only imagine the disembowlment of me that would ensue.....

We sold less units than Dokken, and probably are now loathed in the same way in here........

you guys are brutal. It was the 80's for Christ's fucking Sake. Most of you still have some spandex in the closet somewhere too......

Truth be told, here's the thing, in so far as Dokken is/was concerned...

Above and beyond all other things, I give credit to Jeff Pilson and George Lynch for carrying that band. Dokken, while a hair band (albeit one with a WRETCHED sense of style, and, according to Don, the hair/makeup wasn't anything they wanted to do per se, just something that everybody was doing back then, and I can see that to a degree and understand it), wrote a lot of real quality material when you prop them up against their other contemporaries (Warrant, Trixter, et al). Breaking the Chains, Tooth and Nail, Paris is Burning, Into the Fire, Just Got Lucky, Unchain the Night, Kiss of Death, Dream Warriors...there's honestly a LOT of good shit there, a lot of heavy shit and good guitar rock, truth be told - which isn't something you really got out of Winger and White Lion and blah blah blah...memorable tunes that stick with you. Dokken was always a bit more mature about their writing, usually, to me.

But, when you look at the writing credits, what do you see? Generally speaking, George Lynch and Jeff Pilson on the writing credits. Hell, look at the entire Tooth and Nail album, virtually that's a George Lynch/Jeff Pilson album...I think (forgive me if I'm mistaken) that Don only contributed lyrics to two songs on the entire rotation!

As far as Jeff Pilson is concerned, he's an outstanding bassist and a wonderful musician, I think. As a bassist myself, I can contribute a lot of my original influence to actually pick the instrument up in the first place to him (which is no small saying, considering Jeff's a guitarist & lead vocalist first).

I've been a Dokken fan for a considerable amount of time, and having seen them live, I can say that Jeff always brought his A game to the stage, even if George and Don didn't, and between him and George Lynch...well...Don and Mick were really secondary players, and the evidence is right in front of you with the last two Dokken albums.

Just my two cents on an honest level.

Dokken does have some good material. There are several songs on Tooth 'n Nail, Under Lock and Key, and Breaking the Chains that are pretty sweet, as well as a few on Back for the Attack The thing to think about with Dokken is that alot of their songs will sound really commercial, but come solo time George Lynch is one of the tightest axemen. Honestly, George Lynch is the only reason to get into the band, which I always felt had a lot more depth than bands like Cinderella, or particularly Bon Jovi. So while they are grouped in with bands like that, they do have some rockin tunes.
