    me WISE magic

i went out to buy greatest hits vol. I or whatever it's called in '96. it had two new roth songs. i thought both were great. then i fell of the VH thing. lately i got back into the 6 pack, but always felt the 2 new roth songs didn't quite live up to the "days". then tonight i put on me wise magic and had an epiphany. the song is great but after that post solo build up...i don't know...it is extraordinary!!! and all this talk has me thinking to '96...and guess what? OUR BOYS DID GET BACK AND GIVE US THIS SONG! they did it once again, and while i'm pulling for more, this song especially at the end has a power that even the old stuff doesn't have. sappy or not i got a bit emotional when dave says "tell me you believe, do you believe?" i, like most of you LOVE that band. no matter what happens. i know i believe. ed plays unreal in that part...boy do i feel great. i want more god knows, but i feel great. that song is transcendent! the older i get the more soul i hear in those guys, and they cause bigger sparks!

and wow there's keys and can't get this stuff no more.

      it was new and old

the song had more of the new atmosphere and effects-eddie's wah wah and that thing he now throws on the end...like a big sustainer that lets him feedback and hold out forever, with roth's awesome words and voice. totally new. i think they would kill nowadays.

agreed, although it will probably (read "definately") never happen.

Both those songs are prophetic. And absoultely embarrass the hell out
of the recent Van Hagar attempts.

Its like Dave really is telling us whats going down, and not even the
sisters realize it. But we all know !

It's funny...the past few months something strange has happened.

ME WISE MAGIC has become my all-time favorite VAN HALEN song. I just can't get enough of this one. DROP DEAD LEGS and SECRETS come awfully close. But this one really does it for me.

                "Me wise magic" IS tremendous.
When I bought the "50%" best of on the very day it was released, that was for the 2 new songs first, and the remastered sound of Dave's VH songs in it.
"Can't get this stuff no more" is great too, by the way. But I remember playing "MWM" for my younger bro who's a huge metal drummer a few days later. I plundged him into hard rock and heavy metal, especially CVH, as soon as he was 8. Now he digs Infectious Grooves, System of a Down, late Sepultura, that kind of stuff. So, he listened to the 2 new tracks and went: "Now, they used to be great until 1984, but this is fuckin' awesome. It's really something else."
And we wondered how they could have made that, remembering what V. Hag's recordings sounded like.
"Me wise Magic" is a paradox: it's sheer pleasure, yet there was no tomorrow. That's another - but not the least - torture session for us.

Dave still looks puzzled while thinking back about the fiasco:

I think that is one of the reasons Ed said never again with Sam at

                  the end of the tour.

The whole band hated the lyrics to upchuck my breakfast but spamual

couldn't come up with anything better. The other songs were

                  just as bad!!

                  "Turn your clocks back"

                  Go fuck yourself burger boy!!

Since we're on the subject, does anyone know if anybody co-wrote the lyrics? I remember reading in "Crazy From the Heat" that they tried getting Desmond Child to help Dave. I wasn't really sure if he actually did or not, it's been a while since I read that part of the book.

Well, there's no way anyone but Dave wrote the lyrics to CAN'T GET THIS STUFF NO MORE.

Desmond "Aerosmith parasite" Child, "helping" Dave write his lyrics that are much about stating their case to the mean bros?
Sounds like suggesting Pete Townshend how to wave his right arm about...
