I like WAY DOWN, but I don't like the title track or some of the country stuff.
But yes, PLEDGING MY LOVE is a true rock 'n' roll song.

Do you like your movie ELVIS ON TOUR?? I love that movie!! It's one of the great concert flicks, and I don't know if they're ever going to release it on DVD. It's absolutely awesome...especially the performance of POLK SALAD ANNIE. BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER is also awesome.

Yup! Of course, 1972 was still not so bad for ELVIS. Yes, his wife had just left. But he was still cutting some of his great records (ALWAYS ON MY MIND, BURNIN' LOVE), with PROMISED LAND and T-R-O-U-B-L-E still to come. And he wasn't really fat in this movie. It was a huge tour, amazing shows. And ALOHA was still to come too.
Of course, there are also the famous June 1977 concerts that were filmed by CBS, two months before he passed on. Now, those are depressing viewing.

Imagine being there...
I was a baby when he died. I can only imagine what it would have been like to have seen him then. And in fact, I would almost rather see ELVIS at Madison Square Garden in 1972 than at any other point in his career. That truly was a gigantic show.
