A Quote that shows how much Ed has changed

From an interview with Eddie (circa 1979):

"Music is for people. It's not for yourself. Or if it is, sit in your room and play it. But if you're gonna play it for people, you better play something that they're gonna want to hear instead of walking up there and pretending you're so good and beyond your audience..."

It's so depressing to read this and realize its Eddie talking, when nowadays, these words are so far removed from his philosophy it seems.

        Great post!

Personally, I always thought Ed was a great individual, with a cool attitude, in his early years and was the stabilizing influence in Van Halen, while Roth was the over the top creative genius in the group.

To be honest, I even had to agree with Ed on a few occassions about him getting mad at DLR for being so drunk on stage and it serious affecting DLR’s performance.

Unfortunately, EVH has not aged well, and turned into a total self-centered, only in it for the money, bum over the years. The Hagar years really ruined the guy, and he has never been the same, imo.

I mean come on, what’s up with all this in the pic, and EVH letting Little Gay (Bi) Sambo take him down this road?

Ed says the very same on the RHRN video, 1993. Yep, Ed has changed, he's simply grown up, from kick ass party music to the mature compound compositions of Balance-VHIII. Whatever you prefer - your option, unless you haven't changes since 1979.

But, that wasnt the question MM. It was a qoute from Ed..79...and the simple fact that his ATTITUDE today..is a gross reflection of what it used to be. He does NOTHING for the fans anymore...79 fans or 2005 fans and THAT is the problem!

Judging by the 2004 setlist, Ed has definitely strayed from this philosophy.
