Dlr Band Album ( A Demo Production? )

I Think they done this on purpose to have a LIVE/RAW Ssound album back on the rock scene in comparison to all of late 90s polished sounds ..like Limpbizkit and all..
what's your take on DLRBAND sound ?
do you think it sound cheap ?

It was kinda by design, all of the above, including Dave being cheap.

A live album would have sold over 10,000.

A live album WITHOUT Toshi would have sold 100,000

Dave made an album for the fans. I think he knew his sales figures ahead of time, and wouldn't spend the extra money, figuirng it'd sell the same eaither way.

I think he was too cheap to give it top-notch production. Too bad. I realy neglect listening to it b/c of the sound quality, though some of the songs are great.

With Dave, the bottom line is the bottom line.

Mezro...the whole thing was put together on the cheap...and it sounds like it...

The album did rock (and I love it) but he recorded in on a budget and it shows.

I'll give you a homework assignment: listen to MWM & CGTSNM and then listen to any 2 tracks off of DLR Band.

Mezro...you'll see (hear) what I mean...

You could blame that on the engineer as much as the money spent. I've heard things recorded in people's living rooms that sounded incredible, so I'm not so sure it was the money thing.

Edwin Musper knows his craft well.

He may have had to work fast because Dave only had X amount to pay him.

Mezro...that is where I'm coming from with my whole "budget" take...

Come to think of it, DLR Band has a sonic quality similar to those early ZZ Top albums (Tres Hombres, the self-ttled first album), which Dave was a big fan of. So maybe it was intentional?

                      ...

Naahhh. He paid Musper a flat-fee, Musper did his job in one six and a half hour shift and got the fuck back out of there.

Look at the packaging, from paper to color quality. CHEAP! LAME! I know punk bands who are still trying to play CBGB whose albums look and sound of a higher quality!

The Lowrey and Kilgore songs were GREAT produciton wise - they just needed more bass and to turn DLR's voice up more.

The Hartman songs sounded like they were not even mixed.

thank you! Kind of makes you wonder...why did DLR sever his ties with WB. On the same note, the demand for daves style of music is down as a whole. 1998 is a lot different than 1988... i dont think the market conditions were right...i dont think that the culture is the same for anything he does....

everyone now likes rap or these fly by night bands that are all about punk and power chords.... so maybe he realized that and didnt spend a bunch of money on it...and just did it for his little (really little) fanbase...i dont mean to knock him...i just am sayin that i wish more people liked his music.

if he was, in fact, doing something just for his remaining fans...maybe he should have put a little more care and effort in it...cause we're the only ones left...the last of a breed!

what we need is an album for '05 damn it. fuck the sisters...fuck the EEAS band...fuck all of the past and just look forward and give us some good shit.

                              It's a grate record.

I've never really given the production or sound quality much thought.

Now that I've thought about it, I feel like I've wasted 5 seconds of my life.
