VAN HALEN frontman Sammy Hagar spoke to Doug Podell of Detroit's WRIF 101.1 FM earlier this month about the speculation that VAN HALEN may be finished as a band now that the group have completed their North American tour. Asked to comment on the band's current status in light of the recent reports that Sammy is embarking on a solo tour, Hagar said, "There's really not much to say except, you know, we did it — we did the big tour last year. I don't wanna just do that every year. I mean, I love my band, I love what I do solo, too, and I don't get that in VAN HALEN. VAN HALEN is one thing, and what I do solo is another, and it's two different things, and I couldn't just say I'm only gonna do one. If there's ever a possibility for another VAN HALEN tour, I'd be interested down the road or something, but right now, we just did it and rather than do that again, I wanna go out and play 'Mas Tequila' and 'One Way to Rock'. It's really funny — as an artist, I've had so many songs that I've written and done, made records… you can't just leave that alone. So last year, the WABORITAS, we went down and played Cabo for New Year's Eve, we played three nights, and we had so much fun, we came back and we started rehearsing. I said, 'No, let's put together a whole different show [to the one] we did last year,' and I just got… count 'em here, about 300 songs that I've recorded and written solo that I need to… I just need to play 'em. And my band loves to go out and tour. So we're doing the WABOS this year.

The first 11 years I was in VAN HALEN, it was like no solo stuff — it was pure VAN HALEN — but after going out with my band for seven years, I got really used to it and it got good to me, so I couldn't ever do just one or the other type of thing. You know what I mean?! It would be like… If everybody could stay happy, then we could do it. But I mean, it was great. The VAN HALEN tour was fanstastic. Some of the highlights of that tour were certainly in the Detroit area — those shows were on fire, Joe Louis arena. Those were some of the best shows we did."
