    daves promotion and marketing

Dave needs to really market his stuff more. Before MTV and all that stuff bands spread the word via the live show. I have not seen him since 94 but those of you who have does he sell his current disc at the shows? if he doesnt then he should. he needs to play a few tunes of the current album and have it available for sale.

figure if he plays to an average of 5000 people and onlyu half 2500 shell out for the disc and he plays aprox 20 shows a year then he already has 50.000 units sold which is probably more or less what Diamond Dave has sold in almost 2 years.

That total would not include the sales through retail stores and on line sales.

If he really pushes it he can sell 150,000-200,000 units easily instead of 75,000

What do you guys think, those that have been to the shows what do you suggest.

I'm sure he does, but it wouldn't increase his Soundscan total much. The forms that have to be filled out are tedious and not fully accepted by those that be.

I do agree with you about marketing however. One of his main contributions to making VH what it was, was his ability to sell. He either has entirely too much money nowadays or just doesn't care to push himself that hard in that direction. I don't know..

I went to the Rama show...he had NOTHING for sale...not one damn thing. Kinda sucked too, I have never been to a show where the artist didn't sell any merch.

I think he has extremely grate sale tactics, but he's saving those for the CVH reunion.

Not sure, but... Ya never know.
Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

Maybe he's realised that hes been there and done it all before and that he would prefer to concentrate on the music rather than things like merch.

A possibility is Dave has to have total control. If somethings gonna be done, he will do it himself. So rather than let some stranger design the tour Merch, Dave decides against having ANY.

I dont get how he would not sell any merch at the shows. i always looked at t shirts as the greastest marketing tools around. I mean we are going to buy them. Everytime we wear them in public we are walking billboards. We create awareness. I remember when i was 7-8 years old seeing the older guys walk around with sabbath and zep shirts and then as i got older i was like i have seen their shirts. seems like a lot of people like them i got to check out their music and low and behold i buy tapes then cd`s , then go to see their shows etc etc

Daves albums like dlr and alae and yflm and even best of are out of print and its sad to say diamond dave will go the same way. He needs to push his profile more. Stay in the public eye. If van hagar do it he should to give them some competition. look at all the hype with the new crue tour. they have the top selling album here in canada at the moment. Dave needs to do that again. prove to the world he is not a relic and thing of the past.

everytime i wear a cvh shirt i get people stoping me and saying oh man they rocked they were the best , they are the best. Most guys here will also tell you that cvh shirts are great chick magnets. when you wear them you dont have to go to them with a pick up line they come to you and pick you up. i guess girls think that in every cvh fan theres a little dlr in all of us. do you all agree???

yeah Dave needs to market his shows/albums a little better! Its sad that this great artist is alive n well and not alot of people kknow about him! Well alot of people know about him obviously, but theres a whole bunch of people that dont! Alot of folks i know know bands like sabbath, zep, hendrix and even Van Halen...but they really DONT KNOW CVH, only thing that comes to their minds are spammy(what a shame) or Dave 20 years ago in spandex...and that turns them off and they wont even give CVH a chance! I think he needs(Dave) to push his albums a little better n maybe host Saturday Night Live or something!!! Im sure he doesnt want fucken gay 15 year old good charlotte fans at his shows, but I bet he'd love some hot 20somethings like he had back in the day! But in order for that to happen hes gotta spread the word a little more...alot more actually! I was at his show cuz my bro in law got me into them and DAVE! But not every hot 21 year old female has a cool bro in law thats into Van Halen and loves Dave! I lucked out! I dunno, maybe hes got it all figured out and he'll surprise us with something, i assume! But like Dave said @ the Rama show "dont assume" so maybe hes got nothing! Maybe hes outta ideas! There I go assuming again! Somebody STOP ME!!! I dunno Dave....all i can say is "ROCK ON!!!" brother...NUTHIN BUT YEAH!!!!!

You know if Dave is not in it for the money thats cool. However he could do high profile gigs that would give him maximum exposure get his name out there and not profit.

Summer 2003 here in toronto we had a charity concert for sars, the rolling stones headlined and ACDC co headlined, there were bands like Rush and Tea party there as well. Dave could have played that show or even the show that was just held to raise money for the tsunami efforts. How many people watched those concerts around the world?????

What i can tell you is he is still in it for money, a few years ago a buisness partner and myself try to set up the 1st CVH convention here in toronto and we tried to get dave to either play or sign mechandise and he asked for a lot of money. We also tried to book him at HMV music stores for a cd signing when dlr band came out and it was high stakes.

I may not know more than dave but i do know marketing and promotions and he aint doing any. Do you know how many more copies of DLR and Diamond Dave he could have sold if he did?

I know a lot of CVH Fans and Roth Fans who didnt even know he had put out the DLR and Diamond albums until i mentioned it to them or they heard it at one of my parties. Doesnt that tell you something when a legion of fans dont even know your putting out material.

A few others went to Rama and only found out there he had put out an album. Yeah he did July 2003 and Rama was what Nov 2004???? But all these guys Know when Van Hagar got back with them and they all heard the 3 new tunes. That says it all. If dave truly believes that competition is the breakfest of champions he needs to give Van Hagar some competition a little fight you know!!!!
