Rock 'n Roll has it's roots in gospel, r&b, and country music, so I wouldn't put a real tight definition of what kind of 'rock' should be in there.
Johnny Cash, Elvis, the Ramones, and Paul Simon all have their place there if they are elected.
Everyone is going to have a band or artist that should be in there that isn't. It's similar to the Baseball HOF. Nothing is going to be perfect.
Van Halen should be in, but they aren't, and I can understand why voters wouldn't put them on their ballot, even though I would if I were voting.

Paul Simon?

Man, if Link Wray isn't in there it's a travesty.
