Radio & Video channels that will showcase a band with the traits you mention. I'm sure there have to be bands playing in bars & clubs that won't get the break they need so we can hear them.

        1) Where's the BASS???

        2) Concerts are no longer considered 'shows'. Just some whiney teenager in a flannel shirt complaining about not being heard by his parents or society, all the while a single light bulb dangles above his head, while their own 'sheep' fans scream about what an amazing 'show' they saw 'cuz they ain't never seen a real 70's/80's Heavy Metal show.

        3) Even the women are whining (ahem...Alanis Morrisette...cough...)

        4) Too many of these so-called musicians don't appreciate where they came from. Alternative would get a lot more credit if they themselves credited hard rock/metal bands. Limp Bizkit and Sum 41 have nodded their heads in respect to their metal forefathers, but no one else seems to appreciate.

        5) Heroes. They're missing heroes. They don't have any true heroes. You call Kurt Cobain a hero? Had a beautiful wife, great career and for gawd's sakes a brand new baby and he kills himself? That's a hero? Fuck that and fuck all of 'em that look up to such an unappreciative dirtbag piece of shit. If you thought Eddie and Alex don't appreciate their fans, they're saintz compared to that dumbfuck piece of shit Cobain. Rest in peace, Kurt.

modern rock is a joke! creed, nickleback, stained, disturbed, linkin park...all the bands with the same riffs and fake angst...what cookie cutter garbage! shit on the radio is pathetic. CVH ripped it up and laughed and joked while doing it.

Naturality a.k.a. "The Human Element" (Pretty much everything's been fixed up with Pro Tools to make it sound like precision playing. And they just couldn't practice those songs first?)

Sex, Women and One night stands (Ya can't sing 'bout those things anymore... Instant throwback to 20 years ago and poodle haircuts. So today we hear about a guy falling in love with a girl who he can't touch. Just an allegation, I don't listen to contemporary rock that much. )
Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

modern 'rock' has more to do with how much ram your mac has than how many notes you can fucking play

All that you mention, or, in a word, magic...

I feel the same about it. Very sad. This thread sounds so relevant to me, as it must to this whole Army... otherwise, how could we be "Dave-wise"?

I agree with VH80-84. I think if the original VH got back together, they would ignite a long over do spark back into the hard rock music scene. For now we can only hope that Judas Priest and Motley Crue carry the torch. From what I have read Motley Crue have been packing arena's across the country. There is a definite appetite for Hard rock music, but the music biz is caught up in this Rap Hip Hop shit. Just look at the Top Ten summer tours last summer and the summer before. All rock acts with the exception of Madonna and Prince. And lets give Prince credit, unlike the Rappers, Prince is a consumate musician. Things seem to move in circles. I think Hip Hop will run itself out like Glam rock and Grunge did back in the 90's. I know the public has been dumbed down by this form of music, but how many video's can you absorb of grown men wearing pants down to there asse's and chains around there necks with ball caps hanging off the sides of their moronic skulls.
They can't sing, or play an instrument, so they spew lyrics about killng cops, killing there mom's, promoting drug use, beating up gay's and sexually exploiting women. This really promote's a healthy society. At least Hard rock was fun. Van Halen promoted partying and having a good time, not violence.
