    The Blame Game

I'm re-reading "Bang Yor Head" a book about the Rise and Fall of Metal Music. Vintage VH is highly regarded throughout the book, BTW.

One section discusses how Ed wanted the hell outta VH during the recording of Fair Warning. The author credits Alex as the one who talked his brother to stick it out. The author also serves up Ed's change in attitude as result of meeting and marrying Valerie Bertinelli. She supposedly encouraged Ed to stand up to Dave the Controller. (And the only reason you or I ever heard the song "Jump.")

So, did Ed quit in '81?
Was it Dave four years later?
Did Yoko Bertinelli drive the wedge?

I submit the blame can be divided at least three ways and probably more like 27 ways with lawyers, promoters and "managers."

It's time we stop saying, "Dave quit in '85." The damge was done by many over time.

The volatility remains the draw in every track and video.

"Rejoice in the wife of your youth. May her breasts satisfy you always." Proverbs 5:18-19.

EVH is/was a total drunken tool. If he wasn't playing guitar for a living he would have been pumping gas.

Dave has stated, many times, that there was constant hostility from the onset with VH. I agree that any number of the reasons you stated, and a few more, most likely, were part of the cause for 85'. That and the fact that Ed and Al were being lazy in regards to recording the follow up album to 1984. Which Dave wanted to get going on. They didn't. Dave went out and did CFTH, kept VH informed. Started to shop the movie. Landed it!! That also, played a role here. The Movie. I still believe that Dave got "back-doored" on the whole deal. As I understand it, and it has been quoted numerous times. When Dave "left" VH in 85, in his mind, it was just a "break". He told Ed that when everybody got their shit together and could focus on the new album, they would reconvene. Does that sound like "I quit"?? It sounds like " I'm going to Brazil, call ya when I get back" LOL...

Who knows what REALLY happened for sure. All I know is I heard WCTBL on the radio not long after, and have still not fully recovered from that.

Then I heard and saw the vid for Yankee Rose and smiled again. Ate em and Smiled!

        Good thread too!

I've excerpted some sections from the book here. I think the threads are called "exceprt from Bang your Head...

(or just go in through my threads started bit and locate them.

it's a good book, though it does seem to lean in its sympathies towards Ed.

Well, who knows...Ed said that Dave always had problems with him doing extra-curricular recording and appearing, maybe Ed had problems with Dave over the same thing...

Who the fuck knows? They just need to get their shit together within the next year or two or this is all gonna be over, period.

Somebody has to realize that other than the fans. Jesus.
