I'm re-reading "Bang Yor Head" a book about the Rise and Fall of Metal Music. Vintage VH is highly regarded throughout the book, BTW.
One section discusses how Ed wanted the hell outta VH during the recording of Fair Warning. The author credits Alex as the one who talked his brother to stick it out. The author also serves up Ed's change in attitude as result of meeting and marrying Valerie Bertinelli. She supposedly encouraged Ed to stand up to Dave the Controller. (And the only reason you or I ever heard the song "Jump.")
So, did Ed quit in '81?
Was it Dave four years later?
Did Yoko Bertinelli drive the wedge?
I submit the blame can be divided at least three ways and probably more like 27 ways with lawyers, promoters and "managers."
It's time we stop saying, "Dave quit in '85." The damge was done by many over time.
The volatility remains the draw in every track and video.
