Exactly. In Australia, those who know anything about VH associate the band with DLR. That's my experience, anyway.

VH1 and 1984 have been sold on lots of formats, yes, but people still bought them. They obviously liked the albums enough to pay for them again and again -- doesn't that say an awful lot about the quality of the albums? They've sold 10 million because they're freakin' fantastic.

And, yeah, Sammy is pretty much unknown in this country. DLR is much more famous here.

He say VH w/ Sammy become bigger and better in concerts and musically. Hey suckers! These are the words of one of the most influence man in rock and roll history. You dare disputing him? I DON'T THINK SO.

An awful lot of people would question Gene's credibility. Do you know why he said that Van Hagar sold more? He said that because he was trying to justify having two people in the band who are replacements for their more popular predecessors. I remember when he said it, and it was in an article that questioned KISS' reasons for having Tommy Thayer and whoever the hell is on drums now being almost passed off as Ace Frehley and Peter Criss. Furthermore, Gene doesn't like Dave. The man didn't make that statement because he wanted to educate the world on record sales; he made it with ulterior motives in mind. He was attempting to justify the current KISS lineup and say that, essentially, it's the same band as the one that recorded Alive, Destroyer, etc.

In Gene's mind, it seems, the current KISS lineup is every bit as valid and, perhaps, legendary as the original, "classic" lineup. Having said that, would you still consider him a credible source?

G'day Casemeister, Ive been saying exactly this for years. Sammy Hagar is a nobody in Australia. His so called "Mega Successful Solo Career" that he had prior to Van Hagar never made it to this country.
I still havent heard "Im 55 so I cant drive" or whatever the fuck its called. Many Brits and Europeans have expressed the same thing..
I think Sammy is an American only thing..

Sammy Hagar makes sweet love to (pseudo)Journey guitarist Neil Schon.

Agreed. Nobody knows who he is here. Well, some do... "The guy who was in Van Halen after David Lee Roth? Yeah... hey, how come they never got back with Dave?" But the general public? No way.

I have no idea about his fame in America but, yeah, I guess it's something that just hasn't carried over here.

                      5150 time sucks !
I agree. Looks like Sammy might have a lil' sugar in his britches there as well as a bloated torso.

I wonder who was the one that decided "okay...fellas, dont laugh, I have an idea, we'll all walk around like idiots and we'll call it '5150 time'"

"And here, make a triangle over your mouth and wiggle your tongue and we won't even call it anything, we'll just act like its a symbol for licking pussy and all the sheeple will follow suit."

before people start calling Old VH nostalgia........

Sperm Halan is also nostalgia! its unavoidable at this point of both bands terms. maybe some of you should look up in the dictionary what nostalgia means before using the word.

now can you all shut the fuck up! jeez.... I come here once in a blue moon now and people still fighting for what band is better ? come on DLR fans.... why answer? thats not even a question. stop feeding these sheep and let them have breakfast in the morning...lol

Gene's not even a credible source when it comes to his own band, let alone VH.

You've of course touched on a lot of the interesting history between Gene and Dave/VH.

I'll always remember reading this somewhere (I think it was that KISS book KISS and Sell): Dave was backstage at a KISS concert in late 1982, where KISS were barely filling arenas on their Creatures of the Night tour now with Vinnie Vincent on guitar. This show was no different. Dave and VH were slated to play two sold out nights at this arena where KISS were playing to a half empty house. And there was Dave, basking in the glory, making fun and mocking KISS, basically cracking jokes backstage during the show. VH were at their zenith whereas KISS was on the way down.

                          Just a funny little story.

And I'll always say this: Gene probably had a big sigh of relief when things didn't work out for a reunion between Dave and VH in '96. KISS were of course selling out places left and right. A VH reunion at the time would only hurt their ticket sales.

Panamark is right... In the UK Dave has always been numero uno vocalist for Van Halen.. when I said to friends "Van Halen are reforming" the first question was "With Roth?" .. (and I like Hagar) Van Halen with Hagar totally neglected the European market and fans and they paid the price when they toured with Bon Jovi. (Even Hagar admitted as such in his unofficial autobiography) There was no "Eddie Eddie" chants like in the US!

VH with Dave, properly promoted, would sell out arenas here.. no problem.
