Ed Van Halen the Prick, NYC 4/10/05
Hey People,
I thought you'd all find this interesting.
I got a line that Edward Van Halen was coming into NYC this past Sunday night (4/10/05) @ 12:30 am to JFK Airport. We had his flight # so we knew what gate he'd be at. (I like trying to get autographs when I get a tip on someone I like) I am there waiting with my wife along with 3 bozos who came with a full time autograph hound (who got the same tip I did) and Ed's limo driver.
Well off comes Ed looking like Charles Manson with a grey beard and dirty, stringy hair. In tow are his personal assistant and an airport person helping carry the guitars. No luggage, all carry on! - and he's in NYC for a week! He immediately starts yelling about "how did we know I was on the plane?" and "you fuckin' leeches" and refuses to sign anything. When a celeb says "No" I tend to back off and give them their space. But these three 20yr olds, who are there purely because the full time guy pays them to get autographs for him, start hounding Ed while he's going down the escalator and out to the limo. Ed is furious and is being a real dick to them. But then, Ed stops at the door to the limo and proceeds to lecture these kids on how they are "wasting their lives hanging at airports waiting for him" and "you guys are no different than anyone else in the music business" - "the more I make, the more you wanna take" quoting Eddie. How you kids "need to get laid" and "stop seeking happiness through him" and all this bullshit. That he "never wanted to be famous or a rockstar", he's just a musician. And as far as we should be concerned he should be looked on as "just a plumber" not somebody to look up to or want to meet. He doesn't want it.
Some Pakistani guy who doesn't even know who Ed is, is standing there watching the spectacle and picks up his cellphone to look at his address book. Edward thinking the guy is taking his picture grabs his cellphone and walks away with it. The guy is saying "it doesnt take pictures its my personal cellphone" and Edward says "now it's MY personal cellphone" and puts it in his pocket. The guy pleads with him to give it back, whereas Edward pulls out the guys cellphone from his pants pocket, makes the guy open it and makes him compare it to his cellphone to convince Mr. Van Halen it doesnt take pictures. I wouldn't either if I looked the way he did Sunday night! Realizing he's just made an ass of himself, Edward hands it back and doesn't even apologize. Whatta Dick!
He's basically a crotchity old man now. I was the ONLY musician there, someone who's been a fan since 1980. I proved it to him by taking out my ticket stub from Madison Square Garden from 1981. You think he cared? Nope. He looked at me and said "so what's your point?". A real douche bag who doesn't appreciate his fans at all anymore. Just wants to lecture people on wasting there time bothering him.
Now this went on for 45min! He lectured these two 20yr olds for a good 30min about how they need to "find happiness in themselves" and not live it through him. He refused to get in the limo (SUV),(even though his assistant was pleading with him to do so) until he thought he could change these kids minds to give up going for his autograph. He's probably the rudest and most negative celeb I have ever met.
Now it wasn't always this way. My wife used to date the world's top autograph collector in the 80's and 90's and the whole Van Halen band was always super nice to their fans during that time. Ed would sign guitars, Alex would sign drum heads etc. Dave was hit or miss, he could be nice or he could ignore you. But once "Van Hagar" hired the guy who manages 'Rush' last year, and took on the same security people, the niceness is no more. ('Rush' have always been pricks to their fans). All of 'Van Hagar' refused to sign anything this past tour in 2004. Not even Michael Anthony - who has ALWAYS signed for fans no matter what. No more. I can see now why Valerie left him and he can't keep a lead singer. He's a real douche bag. Once he has a bug up his ass he will not let it go until he feels he's made you feel like shit.
Edward Van Halen has basically turned into everyone's Dad.
Our source for the flight info is someone who works for the VH camp and he says Edward's days are numbered. No cure for the cancer. Too bad - to live your remaining years a bitter, disgruntled old man.
I thought you all might find that interesting and can now know why Mezro will NEVER get a reply from Sammy Hagar's camp about a face-to-face interview. They've basically given up on anything even remotely having to do with pleasing their REAL fans. They just don't give a shit.
