Is the reason that Hagar started the DAVE/SPAM fued because he was sick of being asked questions about replacing Dave in Van Halen?

Of course, if this is right, he must have known that when he joined he was going to be asked about this constantly. It's really no good reason to be mean to someone, is it? I mean, I can understand to a certain extent his boredom and anger at being asked about DLR, because he's not DLR, but he should have just answered the questions respectively.

I can understand why, say, Scott Weiland is angry for being asked questions about Axl Rose, because he's not replacing Axl Rose, Velvet Revolver are not under the Guns 'N' Roses name, right? But, in Hagar's case, he should have just answered the questions without slagging Dave off.

The feud started long before Hagar even joined. Hagar started it by saying that Roth's singing on Pretty woman was embaressing and Roth came back with the response in my sig.

The fact that Sammy Hagar, a mediocre talent who was slipping further and further off the radar in 1983, would take a shot at Van Halen, the biggest and best rock band in the world demonstrates nothing other than pure old-fashioned jealousy.

After Roth split, the remainder of the group and Hagar should have changed the name of the band and went about their business with not a word about Dave being spoken. At the very least, Hagar shouldn't have felt compelled to join in when EVH, AVH and MA went about with their potshots at Roth, especially because it was the sole fact that ROTH QUIT which enabled Hagar to join up with those guys in the first place, and it wasn't like Sam was the white-hot solo artist at the time that he subsequently claimed he was years later.

Sam didn't seem to mind stepping into a group that had just come off of their peak commercial year to date (1984), which was the payoff from a decade of hard work, NONE OF WHICH HAGAR WAS EVEN THERE FOR, and acquiese to keeping the band/brand name and inheriting a degree of success on top of what Roth helped build.

Didn't matter in the end. All the feuding in the press that went on in 1985-1986 was null and void once 5150 came out, Van Halen turned into a pop band and Eat 'Em And Smile fucking CRATERED the soft rock EVH and Hagar were pedalling. That 5150 sold more than EEAS mattered not one bit to me then, and matters even less now.
