    think about it if dlr wasnt the original then y would he still be in the news about his break up with VH over 20 years later no one talks about ozzy and sabbath like that

          Yeah, James Brown was solo...

          But as a showman, he and DLR are the undisputed KINGS of their Genres! Both have killer screams too!
          Without DLR in the lineup, Van Halen is merely Rat Salade...

              He was the band too!

              Most of the musicians that were in his band had to read cues he would give off.

                What made David Lee Roth great is he studied the classic entertainers like James Brown and put his own spin on what he learned. Dave was part classic Vegas, Vaudville, Rock and Roll, R&B, Big Band, Hollywood, all rolled into one flamboyant package. Dave was a mess of pop culture, American history lessions, and animal instincts. Dave was James Bond fucking Anne-Margret while shooting the bad guys who busted in the room while smoking a cuban cigar.

                  In two words, Dave was simply THE BEST.

                  Perhaps it was his soulful antics and style that drew my attention as a youngster to his no-holds-barred brand of funk...LOL
                  Without DLR in the lineup, Van Halen is merely Rat Salade...
