Every time that I've ever played "Smoke On The Water"...I've used more of the E string and few of it is open E. I dunno if I want the song to be that damn high pitched unless you have Tiny Tim as a lead singer!

Guess Mike hanging out with Sam is understandable, what with the amount of times Dave has referred to him in the press as "the bass player" (hee hee hee!!).

Mike didn't display much technical prowess on any Van Halen stuff I've heard, that's for sure, but agree that Ed was able to cover so much ground and fill out so much of the sound that it really wasn't necessary for Mike to be some kind of 'lead' bassist, a la Entwistle or Sheehan, regardless of if he could or not.

Gave Mike a pass for years and years, until reading his 1996 comments about the whole CVH reunion debacle. Am pretty comfortable writing him off as one lucky sumbeyauch who, rather than goad the Van Halens into getting Roth back for a end-of-the-line jackpot, seems more comfortable hanging around Cabo just in case Red Tubs other bass player calls in sick.
