These two titans of ego, both ex-lead singers for hard rockers Van Halen, had already seen Van Halen fans feud over which version of the group was better — the early one with the lion-maned Roth, or the later version with tequila pimp Hagar.
In 2002, the two decided to put it in the hands of the fans and launched a tour with each singer taking turns as headliner. Diamond Dave played 90 percent early Van Halen tunes, while Hagar mixed in stuff from his successful solo careers both before and after he was in Van Halen.
The two jibed at each other onstage during their respective sets but never came to blows. For the record, Van Halen was better with David Lee Roth.
