    The remasters thread

Anyone else still haven't gotten them yet?

For those that do have them, did you all trash your old pressings?

And to any audiophiles out there... can the sound get any better than the remasters?

I haven't gotten them. I had every CVH album on vinyl and CD. I didn't feel the need to go out and repurchase them.

Are they that much better than the originals?

I bought all 6, and sold the older 6 to my ex-roommate for $25.

I had Van Halen and Diver Down on CD, then got the other four in remastered versions. They sounded enough better that I went out and bought the other two remasters. They sound better, especially Diver Down and VHII

I've heard 1984 benefits the best from remastering...but haven't heard it yet.

My Friend's dad had a copy of VH1 on CD, he bought his own remastered copy and the sound was improved so much that he went and ought all the CVH CDs remastered.

I don't think the sound can get any better, really... I think this time they squeezed out all that they could from the recordings and cranked up the volume on top of it. I haven't heard the original recordings of course, but... I think this is it. Better, only recording it again.

              Cheers! :bottle:

I too had the originals and decided to buy the Remasters the week they were released. The reason I did this was because every time I attempted to make my own compilation "best of" CD, the songs were all at different levels...ESPECIALLY the "Diver Down" and "VH II" albums. Incidentally, these 2 albums turned out to be the most improved.

But, in the end I couldn't part with the originals I had and store them side by side in my CD collection. I also have the six pack on vinyl and cassette, but we'll keep my compulsion in check and stop right here! :D

WACF sounds a bit crisper - and also now includes the Helmut Newton Dave bondage poster.

They could've DEFINITELY given us all some bonus tracks, newly published photos, and liner notes on all the CDs though - especially as how all CVH albums are no longer than 35 minutes.

The remasters sound better in the car. I've got a pretty decent tube DAC on my home system, and they sound pretty much the same through that.

I concur! Studio pics, live pics and perhaps tour dates and stats of the coinciding tour for the album. That wouldn't be too much to ask!

But that would have required effort.

As far as unreleased songs not being on the Remasters, I don't know. I'm kind of glad they left the track listing in tact. I think I'd prefer the unreleased tracks all together on a single CD in order with dates coinciding with which sessions they came from. If you've been listening to a particular album for years and years, and the band chooses to re-release in Remastered form with bonus tracks, it seems to interupt the flow of things.

In other words: improved sound = good. Bonus tracks = not so good.

                              Just my opinion.
