If you've been listening to a particular album for years and years, and the band chooses to re-release in Remastered form with bonus tracks, it seems to interupt the flow of things.

In other words: improved sound = good. Bonus tracks = not so good.

    Just my opinion.
I do know what you mean, but look at how Elvis Costello has handled his remasters: the albums sound GREAT, and he gives a full bonus disc of demos, live versions, alternate takes, out-takes, etc etc (along with incredible liner notes and newly published photos). All at NO EXTRA PRICE.

If you want to maintain the feel of the original album, you can always eject the CD before the bonus tracks begin.

As for all the extra stuff being compiled onto a newly released CD, sometimes - either because of performance or sound quality - the material doesn't warrant seperate release. It works better to as an incentive for long-time fans to make the purchase of material they already otherwise own. And besides, have the powers that be given us that newly released CD in the past 20 years???

Or they could do like Judas Priest did....just keep the original track order on the cds, and then provide some bonus tracks at the end....but then, they have so much unreleased stuff, I would much rather have, say the After Zero Demos completely remastered on a seperate disc.

AC, I would totally be for a disc with the original track listing and then a seperate disc from unreleased songs from that particular session.

Hardrock, fucking great idea about a Largo DVD.

Redball, I expect you to buy both "II" and "Diver Down" remasters this weekend and report back to me! :D

I have the remasters except, VH1. I have the Gold Van Halen 1 DCC disc. I'm a big fan of the Gold Cd's and the remasters...they sound a hell of a lot better, and worth the price!

Never bought any "gold" editions. Does it enhance the sound?

I think the remasters sound great! Essential stuff...

As for the various points about bonus tracks, there are a few ways of doing this as mentioned and I'm up for any of them JUST RELEASE THE STUFF!!!

They are missing out on some nice revenue by not releasing a series of vintage CD/DVD packages.

They sound much better, especially DIVER DOWN. Still, that album's mix wasn't as bottom-heavy as it could have been, and since it wasn't remixed, it is still lacking sound-wise on a few songs.

The only way those albums will sound better, short of a remix, is a DVD-audio/SuperAudio release.
