Ed's solo - Tucson '04

I downloaded Ed's solo from the last year's Tucson show....

I wanted to hear for myself how his solo had supposedly degraded over the years....

Well, damn, I can't believe I'm saying this, but after listening to that quote-unquote "solo", that was damn near piss break material !!!

The closest I've heard to that kind of sloppiness in a guitar solo was frickin' Mick Mars !!!!

Listening to Van Halen fans yelling "this sucks !!!" and "come on Ed ??" is simply unfathomable to me, that shit just doesn't happen....

Yeah sure, he threw in some Cathedral and stuff like that, but for the most part, it was just like he was just goofing off at 5150 !!!

And yes, I know, he told everyone that he was just fucking off, but Edward Van Halen simply CANNOT fuck off during his solo in a Van Halen show Goddammit !!!!

And then finally, when he starts into Eruption, it's almost anti-climactic, it's almost like you're saying to yourself "15 minutes of bullshit and 45 seconds of guitar playing".....

I guess in summary, I was just fucking shocked.....

And considering how good the soundchecks have sounded playing CVH, you may have something...

But if I'm already stupid enough for paying 75 clams to listen to 2 hours of lollipop ballads, at least give me 15 minutes of an prototypical Edward Van Halen solo, ya know ??

This actually goes back to how Dave helped guide the band into what they were.

Remember in CFTH Dave talks how when ed was leading mammoth he would just stand there and stare down at his fretboard and play?

Dave gave the band DIRECTION and a POINT OF VIEW. Ed has gone to say how before they got signed, dave told him he has to move around more, and move his mouth with the notes he's playing. this eventually led to more colorful clothing and whatnot as well.

but it was also about creating a tight, cohesive solo section. People are there hear more than what you're going to do while sitting in front of the TV with no amp. especially having been out of the public eye for such a long time, you BETTER blow me away with what you've been doing in all that time.

Ed fucking RIPPED IT UP during the sound-check...I heard he got all wasted and sucked during the actual show because he was mad at Sammy...

That was the only show I downloaded...because I wanted to hear how the meltdown actually happened...

Not really much of a 'meltdown'...

He really sucked during the show...again, I heard he got blitzed and sucked just to piss Sammy off...

He was awesome in the soundcheck...

Man - I went to the Louisville show (crucify me later if you want, I regret it) and Ed was awful. He didn't jack off like he did on that solo, but he wasn't on his A game either.

Anyone here that plays guitar could've smoked him that night. People sitting around me were saying that.

I didn't know whether to be pissed or embarrassed or sympathetic.

He was a shell of his former self that night.
