    Honest Question

Do you people actually like DLR or do you just take up for him because you hate Sammy? I tend to think it must be because you hate Sammy. Because Honestly besides roth's character, he had nothing. No voice, no writing ability(46 covers). The only reason people even know who this guy is because of Eddie Van Halen, and of course Sammy Hagar who resurrected a nearly dead Van Halen who were playing Culture Club covers before Sammy stepped in.

Actually he does have a voice and writing ability. I'd like to see you write songs as well-known as Runnin with the Devil or Unchained and sing them with a voice like that.

I can't. I couldn't write a song if my life depended on it. By the way I don't really mean Dave has no writing ability, I just mean that he has none when compared with Sammy.

Sam doesnt write that much with the band...Dave's influence was all over band in the early years...look at Fair Warning and some of the lyrics there..they are great and he, with Ed, put some mean songs together...now, ed writes all the songs and tells sammy what to sing...hence the debate over humans being etc....

You, sir, are an idiot! A shallow idiot. It is extremely clear that you havn't actually listened to a great deal of CVH.

If Sammy had never existed (now theres a beautiful thought) I would still love Dave. I love what Dave did in Van Halen, I love his personality, his voice, his scream, his lyrics, his wit, his ability to take the piss out of himself. I think he is an absolute virtuoso of a frontman. I love how innovative and original the band was with Dave...do you have any idea how hard Dave pushed everyone in that band? How much pride he took in what he and the band produced? Eddie once commented that Dave was so creative he could come up with a melody for songs that Eddie thought were write-offs, and he could make them sound good.

I am not a fan of Sammy Hagar's voice, I think he sounds like a less versatile David Coverdale on a bad day. I strongly dislike his lyrics, they are incredably poorly written, the fact that a man in his late thirty's would write "Only time will tell if we stand the test of time" and keep a straight face whist singing it beats the shit out of me. I don't like his attitude, his childish jabs at things at completely unrelated issues such as Dave's hairline, I hate how he refuses to acknowledge that the Dave-fronted VH line-up was at all noteworthy. I think he is parthetic at talking to an audience (watch the live RNRN DVD and try to understand one thing he says). And most of all, I dislike the music produced during his version of VH; it is safe, uninovative corporate crap. Sure the band did rock out a few times with Sammy, but his sub-par lyric writing, and inablity to sing in anything other than that horrid screech that dragged the band down and shot every bit of remaining potential to hell, and then pissed on it.

Nearly dead Van Halen? Culture Club covers?

You really are stupid, the band was absolutely enormous right before Dave left. The 1984 tour was their biggest yet. 1984 is a quality album...take out 'I'll Wait' and 'Jump' (which, for the record, are not bad songs and are nowhere near as cheesy as anything Sammy would later burp) and you have some of the hardest rocking material the band has ever produced. They literally were the biggest band in the world at the time, that is undisputable.

Now that is my opinion, you fucking spanner. I don't pretend Dave is perfect, nor do I believe that he is a God...He has made mistakes in his career (leaving VH for a start), but I love the guy and I dislike Sammy.

Now...kindly sit on a dildo you fucking sheep!

It's the other way around. Eddie would have been just another hot-shot guitar player if not for Dave. Dave was the driving force behind the band making it big. I'm not talking just musical talent.

The theory being that we listen to DLR as some kind of an anti-Sammy stance? Think you're giving Hagar way too much credit.

Obviously Hagar is capable of writing music and coming up with lyrics, whatever one thinks about the quality to one side. For me, Roth's voice had an individuality that set him apart from the pack. Definitely shows signs of wear and tear nowadays, but he had a pretty decent range for a guy who so many thought couldn't sing worth a damn. Think Roth and Ed as the nominative heads of CVH were responsible for turning each other into well-known entertainers....never bought into the proposition that if it weren't for one of them, the other would have been a nobody.

Hagar just doesn't do anything for me. His style and vocal range really aren't that distinctive to me. Find his lyrics are pretty trite and bland. As for Sammy taking Van Halen to greater heights after Roth left, well, CVH was coming off 1984 (which had Van Halen's only #1 single, Jump, on it) and a sold-out tour. Everybody knew who Van Halen was before Roth bailed and Hagar stepped in.

You can not be serious. The three above Sammy songs are an embarrasment for VH.

No, I like DLR more than I hate SH. Believe me I really hate that stupid moron because he ruined VH. It's not like I gave him a chance I have one van hagar record and I only ever listened to it once, cause it sucks. But I own all the rest with DLR/VH and a few DLR solo stuff because I prefer him in VH but he's still an exellent solo artist.

David Lee Roth was and always will be the spirit and spark that lights the flame that we know as Van Halen. Dave was involed in the production of the stages , videos, albulm covers, interviews, clear down to the shirts. He was the straw that stired the drink. He help build the myths and legends of Van Halen . Without David Lee Roth Van Halen is just AIR SUPPLY with a great guitarist.

THERE IS NO VAN HALEN WITHOUT DAVID LEE ROTH!!

                            no, no, no, no, no.

For starters, in Britain (where i am) nobody has heard of Sammy Hagar, but have heard about CVH (Jump is their only song here) and Sammy Hagar didn;t even come to my attention before i liked CVH. I heard some hagar shit and it really pissed me off. Eat Em And Smile was way better than 5150 if you know what i mean. As for singing style Sammy sounds like every other 80s butthole candyass singer, whereas DLR had a great Bluesey original voice.

So fuck off and think before you post shite like that!

If you can't write then don't criticize someone that's out there writing songs. At least Dave, unlike Sammy, can write something that isn't a cheesy love song.
