Didn't CVH Help Redifine American Rock'n'Roll???

Think about it. When Van Halen first came to the forefront of popular music, the kind of music they were making was not popular at all. Well, maybe if you were English. Aerosmith and Kiss were the only American bands doing it with any REAL degree of success, but there was a lot of shit going around that hasn't lasted the test of time.

Just like when Guns'n'Roses came out with Appetite For Destruction and killed the LA rock scene, Van Halen were pioneers. Sure, they couldn't have done it without a healthy dose of Led Zeppelin et al, but noone else did what they did. Let Gene Simmons take credit for "discovering" them, but we all know they would have made it regardless.

In the music industry, anyone can have a "hit". Longevity is another thing. If VH had started yesterday, they'd have the benefit of a more structured music industry, one where someone like, oh, say Don Kalodner could say to them "Put your petty differences aside and make some REAL music - for your fans (and maybe - like Aerosmith - make some REAL money).

If Eddie thinks God works thru him, then maybe he should be a little bit less selfish, and do something for God's children??? Maybe make a few sacrifices? God, it shits me!!

I'm no God-botherer by the way. I just believe there is a power that runs thru life and it's biggest instrument is music.

    Rock on music lovers!!!

Oh, and what i said about the modern music industry applies to why Spammy VH sold so many records. Plus CVH laid such a solid foundation that ANY band could have built on it!

Yes and may the Bears rove well.

You have our friend the Kukaburra, a rather ass-knocking version of the Mockingbird, Crow, and Tucan.

Listen closely, mate. It's from me to you. Hope YOU've had a good listen, Mark. I am the Wizard where to get more CVH, Oz or none.

I agree. When I first heard VH in 1978 the fact that their sound was so different is what attracted me to them.

That only lasted as long as DLR was in the band.

When Hagar joined they began to sound like everyone else, IMO.

The arena stalwarts got a kick in the ass, that's for sure. Disco was dying, and Punk/New Wave was all the rage.

That first record flipped folks out.....get the fuck out hippies and punks.

                  Dynamic!

                  Groundbreaking!

Especially during the reign of CVH (1978-84), NOBODY ruled the streets at night like the Atomic Punk.

He elevated the band to legendary status with EVH providing the guitar pyrotechnics that made CVH the People's Band...
Without DLR in the lineup, Van Halen is merely Rat Salade...
