Thanks Rustoffa ! Anyone can play three guitar chords over and over,
its the lyrics, melody and arrangement that bring the song to life.
Dave fucking wrote those songs, I stand by my original comments.

Again, my thoughts exactly. Not that I'd ever subject myself to actually hearing it.

Part of me thinks leaving Dave's tunes out is good, in that it shuts the door on the Roth era and leaves it free of Hagar's embarassing, cringe-inducing attempts at singing the songs.

But, in this line of thought, ie. treating Van Hagar as it's own thing separate from the mighty Van Halen, they should've given the band a new name right at the start with the release of 5150. Don't fucking call it Van Halen. (I think if they had of done that, I might not have such a problem with them now.)

The other part of me feels that if you're going to operate commercially under the VH moniker, you need to give some goddamn respect to the material that made you.

Spammy's been feasting off the House That Roth Built for a long time, maybe he should acknowledge that fact by facing the fucking music and singing some of the fucking songs. Truth is, he's probably afraid of them.

But, in the end, if this decision means there's that many less horribly butchered and bastardized limp facsimilies of VH tunes being performed by a group that's a mere hollow shell of it's former glory, then that can only be a good thing.

But you raise a good point.

I totally agree, they should have named the band officially "Van Hagar" Thats what everyone calls them anyways. It would have showed a little bit of respect for the orignal band too..

                      But at the same time

They worked for years to build that name. They were on the cusp of super stardon. (if they weren't there already) I could see them wanting to continue the name they had a hand in building since 77.

Of course I dumped them in 85

I'll be perfectly honest here....I am totally surprised by this move. If this is indeed true, then I believe it will be the first time that a band who only had one number 1 hit song won't play it live. Not playing any Dave tunes will definately piss a lot of casual fans off. Especially considering that most rock station that play Van Halen tunes mainly play the Dave era. Something just seems very weird about all of this.

                            I agree.

Us as Classic VH fans could live without RWTD. But the casual fan will want to hear those classics. And there are so many.

Personally, I'm glad they're not doing the Dave songs. Why? Mainly because I really want this tour to fail. I do have respect for the fact that Sammy does have some talent as a musician and while he was in VH there were a few songs that were "ok" at best. He's simply not VH...regardless of how long he was in the band after DDLR or how many records they sold. Eddie would simply be another Joe Satriani, playing small clubs and trying to get by if Dave didn't do his thing the way he did and contribute 1/2 of each song. The VH name is legendary because of Dave...simple as that! NO ONE can put up any argument to that fact!

So, once the word gets out that there'll be no classic songs played...I'll bet ticket sales will be weak (I hope) and I'm SURE they'll get ripped in reviews about it. 1/2 way through the tour when shit starts hitting the fan...you'll hear Panama and Jump and maybe a few others thrown in there. Sam will get pissed, Ed will whine and BOOM!!
