I think Powederfinger are a good enough band to make it anywhere in the world but it just won't happen. The same thing happened with Chisel.

Why would i disagree i said it in the first place?! Both the 'finger are and Chisel were world class - remember Barnes was considered for VH so someone must have heard him (& i'm not referring to Working Class Man!)

Grinspoon, silverchair, The Living End, The Screaming Jets - all worthy of at least a chance on the world stage but overseas companies are at a loss on how to market them.

Fuck, Seattle had a 'scene' - why can't Australia?

Silverchair had a hit or two over here. But only because they sounded like they were from Seattle.

Hell, I don't know why Aussie bands have such a hard time catching on over here. I was listening to Ac/Dc and tracking down vinyl copies of import albums long before most people in this country knew who they were. Got into INXS early. Hell I still remember The Angels (marketed as "Angel City" over here so they wouldn't be confused with the glam band Angel)

I'll listen to any Aussie band at least once, as long as nobody named Gibb is involved.

I didn't mean disagree on your initial comments,I said I agree with you.
I just have this debate with a few mates over whether or not Powderfinger have the material to make it bigtime.
        I'm glad we agree.

Hey man, don't hassle the Gibb's!!!:D

If they did a song good enough for Faith No More to cover, well.....

You should definetly check out Grinspoon. Silverchair did sound like they came out of Seattle but since then they've developed thier own style. But imitation is what comes from being ignored for having a sound that's your own.

Little River Band had a lot of success in the states but they were doing the Eagles/E.L.O. thing. Cold Chisel were a great band and are also worth checking out.

Powderfinger are world class. The world just hasn't worked it out yet!

INXS Kicks Ass! Kirk Pengilly (sax/guitar), Garry Gary Beers (bass), The Farriss brothers - Andy (keyboards), Tim (guitar), and Jon (drums) are all great musicians. It's too bad Michael Hutchence died. I don't see how the band can find the right replacement thru a format like RockStar, i.e. American Idol where America picks the new singer. I've noticed that all the singers have a cheesy cruise ship style of singing and performing ala' America Idol.

The majority of the contestants are female, which is typical of the new american TV reality format. Not that I have anything against female singers, but INXS is a male fronted band.

In fact, one of the female singers had a country-rock vibe to her voice. INXS is Rock/Funk, not Country! it's like anything American has to have some jeremiah johnson type of person to be part of the cast, because focus groups find that the majority of americans are of german decent, so they have to cater to the greater population.

I like the comparison to AC/DC, that's how it should be done, like a surprise to the fans, instead of a cheesy contest with crappy singers who have NO SOUL or stage presence.
