Dave mentions in his book that 70% of 5150 was done by him...songs like summer nights were done by dave before the split...any chance that stuff will ever be released??
Any Chance We will ever hear Dave's 1985's unfinished Vh recordings!!

It's often been said that the reason they initially jammed "Summer Nights" with Hagar tis' cos it was one of only a few songs that was complete with chorus, melody, bridge and what have you. I've also read or remember interviews that "Good Enough" was another which would make sense time frame wise cos that riff tis' was also used in "The Wild Life."EAT US AND SMILE!!!!

Yeah it's too bad, woulda been nice to hear how bad things had gotten from those demo tapes.I'm very proud of what was that band and what was that show and what it did mean to people. It disgusts me that it has turned into the complete opposite. That it now represents everything that I spoke against, that we suppoesedly represented the converse of. I don't want to have to remember that the team turned into that. Makes me question what the team was while I was a member. Was it all bullshit? If nothing else, it confirms in my mind that from my standpoint - yours truly, David Lee - not a fraction. If nothing else, this kind of morbid, wounded animal anger aimed my way has caused me to look deep into that bathroom mirror and come back to you with "my shit was legit." It was for real. And perhaps the test is time. Because here I am, a decade and a half later, haven't changed much. I look a little different, but not much. My sense of humour is about the same.Comment

I bet there are some rough vocals on demo versions, but the completed studio versions on 5150 were done after fatty joined. They wouldn't get into full recording without a producer, etc.
Frankly, I can't believe it when they say GOOD ENOUGH was intended for Dave. I mean, Van Hagar songs are usually bad as it is. But that one always struck me as particularly bad. It is just pure shite. I can't imagine Dave singing anything on that to improve it. It's just really bad generic 80s rock.
5150 would have been a pretty different monster had it been finished with David sticking around.Roth Army Militia

I meant the album, but you're right. I remember reading that Eddie wrote it and called Sambo in the middle of the night. Thing is, I always thought the music on that track was excellent. I just always hated the lyrics, melody. But the riffs are good. That would have been great if Dave sang it...but with different situations come different fates and different inspiration. Odds are, Eddie would have been in a different place the moment he wrote that and wouldn't have come up with it...
You're probably right. Eddie has been known to write so much music that there have to be plenty of things they at least began to work on that never reached the Hagar sessions of late '85.
A box set would really clear some of this mess up. Eddie has stated that they only released half of what they worked on for 1984, and I read him saying that two or three things had vocals too. Dave also stated that there are tons of unreleased VH songs with vocals.Roth Army Militia

Well I know they recorded a cover "In The Midnight Hour" and "Big Trouble" for 1984, but went with a re-done "House of Pain" instead. They tried to get "Big Trouble" on an album for years, first it was "Diver Down" then "1984."
I'm pretty sure if that "Eat Thy Neighbor" thing Dave has mentioned ever gets out it probably will wind up being a different version of "Summer Nights."Comment

Yeah, that's what MAX thinks too about EAY THY NEIGHBOR.
As for HOUSE OF PAIN...I like the song. But I always thought it almost doesn't fit on 1984. I think BIG TROUBLE is a better song. A great song, actually. If they did a faithful version of it, but with that 1984 guitar sound, it would have been killer. Maybe right after I'LL WAIT with GIRL GONE BAD ending the album. I still can't believe there are fans that don't talk about the brilliance of GIRL GONE BAD, BTW. That's a masterpiece of guitar wizardry and unique vocal performance.
Yup, I read about IN THE MIDNIGHT HOUR too. I bet the recording is cool. Alex probably bitched about it. At least they could have made it the b-side of PANAMA or something. Or maybe put it on a soundtrack?
I read that they also recorded BIG TROUBLE for DIVER DOWN as well.Roth Army Militia

Totally dug Girl Gone Bad. To me, that track is head and shoulders above Jump, I'll Wait or Panama.
Guess it depends on if any of the demos still exist. At this stage, nobody can say with any certainty if they were all tossed in the circular file after Dave left, or if AVH has them, or what. Even if they are still around somewhere, THEN you have to jump the hurdle of getting the VH Bros to sign off on releasing them, which (considering Ed has been sitting on '2 or 3 albums' worth of material for several years now) doesn't seem too fucking likely. We'll probably get another VH greatest hits CD before ANY of that stuff would see the light of day.Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment

Nobody is going to like this but if you want to hear those tracks, be nice to Wolfgang.
Chances are when dad dies, he is going to find a lot of material at 5150. If we piss him off, he may not release it to spite us.
BTW, best ending of a VH album is Girl Gone Bad followed by House of Pain.Comment

Girl gone Bad is probably the most intense song on the album. When I first heard the 1984 album back in the day I found it a little slik and borderline overpolished.....for a hardcore diehard like myself. BUT G.G.B. still gets the blood pumping to this day. A killer often overlooked track. I'd kill to hear the '85 demos with Dave !Trolls take heed...LOG OUT & FUCK OFF!!!
