Funny how back in 1984, Vivian said that Van Halen was a talented player, but lacked the soul of Gary Moore.

Dug RJD with Rainbow, Sabbath and still like Holy Diver and The Last In Line. Those first two RJD solo albums still rock. By the time Sacred Heart came out, there was definitely a sense of repetition setting in.

Agreed that Vivian still knocks RJD to this day, and it's kinda confusing to me; what's the worst that came out of Viv being in Dio? He became a name player, and it enabled him to build up his name to the point where he was able to tour with Whitesnake and join up with Def Leppard. Doubtful ANY of those things would have happened without him having been in RJ's band. Plus, the stuff Viv did with RJD is far more interesting to me than any of the shit he did with Leppard.

Ronnie is a class act (like David), he's all about his fans (like David), and his music has barely disappointed over the years with each consecutive album. I can think of maybe 2 Dio albums that weren't much good. Maybe 2, maybe 3 over his entire career - which started back in 1957. Other than that, Ronnie's put out quality music year after year after year, and he rarely disappoints the fan base.

Vivian Campbell? The man's a fucking yutz. He's a fucking nobody, and the ONLY reason anybody knows who he is is because of Ronnie. Had it not been for Ronnie, Vivian would have barely reached B grade artist stature and he'd have been retired from the music scene fifteen years ago by now.

I'll say it, and frankly, I don't fucking care - Dio was JUST as interesting to me as Van Halen was. Equally so for the both of them. Reason being, they're entirely two different fields of music and I look at Dio much differently than I did Van Halen. In so far as the D&D metal thing was concerned, Dio WAS and IS the Van Halen of that field. NOBODY, and I mean fucking NOBODY, does it better than he does. Ronnie was the pinnacle and all others aspired, much like classic VH.

RJD and DLR have such dissimilar approaches to what they do in every facet, from showmanship to vocals, lyrics and presentation...can't even make a comparison. About the only thing they have in common is a dedication to excellence. Saw CVH on their 1984 tour and Dio on the Last In Line tour a few months later in that same year, and can honestly say I'd be hard pressed to even give a preference, much less say which one is better, 'cause both bands kicked ass.

Both Viv and EVH became irrelevant for me post-1984. Viv was a great guitar player, but he's nowhere near as innovative as Ed was. Never will be.
