Led Zeppelin if anything, Dave acts like Robert Plant more than anyone else to me. And in the 70's Ed dressed a lot like page, and he probably plays the most like page to me.

I was thinking led zeppelin quite a bit. The beach boys was a good call with the harmonies. I'd say Hendrix was a big influence with Eddie's playing with the whammy bar.

Ed loved clapton as a kid (when ed was a kid not clapton as a kid) and said he knew everynote he ever played, but i dont know how much that influenced his playing in VH

I read a few EVH interviews and he loved Cream and Claptons playing. Especially the way the band would all play something different from each other, go off on a tangent and come back together. The way the guitar bass and drums work with each other in VH is like that.

I meant in terms of stage presence, DLR looks most like Robert Plant to me.

From what I hear as far as influences are concerned are:

                    ZZ Top
                    Clapton (Cream)
                    Zepplin
                    Jimi
                    Grand Funk Railroad
                    Sabbath

Yep WARF got it...Dave's stage antics are directly influenced by Big Jim Dandy Mangrum, of Black Oak Arkansas.

DAVE --David BOWIE (image wise) and of course LOUIE PRIMA ("the first rock star")

ED --THE WHO (song writing and rhythm guitar)

Van Halen had an original sound. I hear nothing other than Van Halen when I listen to Classic Van Halen. There is nothing remotely familiar to Led Zep, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Beatles, Stones, Beach Boys, Bee Gees, etc. Van Halen was a microcosm of everything and anything. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
