Listening to the radio last night

I was cleaning out this storage shed at my house (damned ex-landlady leaves me a ton of old fucked up JUNK to clean out after I bought her house ) and I had the jambox on the radio....amazingly enough they played 3 CVH songs in a row and the DJ comes on afterwards and says "Now that is the REAL Van Halen..."

Seems the entire planet knows that van hagar sucks ass, and as people generally seek out quality in their entertainment, it is common knowledge that CVH is the real thing, while van hagar is just a poorly reproduced copy (I am never going to use capitalization again for van hagar, as they are just a lame, pathetic excuse for a Van Halen cover band).

Glad you brought that up. CLASSIC VH was a band that could NOT be touched back in the day...and with the horrible state of music today..Still cannot be touched. You had a band that became a religion..a statement. Van Halen made you feel good when all else failed..it still does. The first time I heard CLASSIC VH I was 9 years old. The first song? JUMP. To a 9 year ol..that's the perfect song! Anyhow it baffels me to this day that there are people out there that feel that Sammy was better then Dave at being a frontman..I'll never get that..ever. Your Thread was worth reading...hope I didnt bore ya. I get a little crazy when it comes to CLASSIC VH...

That's great to hear! It's true, THAT is the real Van Halen. For a long time, my radio station was playing Classic VH only, but all of a sudden they were playing that Van Hagar shit. I was quite upset by this...

"So there, I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopkeeper and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes...Nasty business, really, but sure enough I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show..."

Now that's classic VH, sounds right after Mean Streets, not after a ballad

How many band's albums can you put on and listen to them all the way thru, dig every song, and then want to listen to the next one they put out?

I've lost count with how many times I've done that with VH1, VHII, etc, etc. (yes, I even play DD all the way thru)

That's the six-pack baby! Just like the name implies, you can't just have one!

Very cool, I was the same age and Jump was the perfect song for me too. And the guitar break in Drop Dead Legs used to hipnotize me into an otherworldy trance. :D

What a great story man!! I can't even think back far enough to the last time I heard CVH on the radio. It's a shame but whenever it happens...ooooh I can feel it now, my blood just starts rushing and I just go into the ULTIMATE state of awareness!! Hearing CVH on the radio, thinking, other people could be tuned in like me, getting as inspired as me!! That's the feeling I love, knowing that someone somewhere is just starting to get hooked. You can't stop Van Halen. Their legacy and name will live on for many many years.
I'm very proud of what was that band and what was that show and what it did mean to people. It disgusts me that it has turned into the complete opposite. That it now represents everything that I spoke against, that we suppoesedly represented the converse of. I don't want to have to remember that the team turned into that. Makes me question what the team was while I was a member. Was it all bullshit? If nothing else, it confirms in my mind that from my standpoint - yours truly, David Lee - not a fraction. If nothing else, this kind of morbid, wounded animal anger aimed my way has caused me to look deep into that bathroom mirror and come back to you with "my shit was legit." It was for real. And perhaps the test is time. Because here I am, a decade and a half later, haven't changed much. I look a little different, but not much. My sense of humour is about the same.
