As for Lynyrd Skynyrd, I agree that they should be inducted - but only with the stipulation that it's the ORIGINAL band, not this pathetic tribute band that exists today.

And that's probably exactly why they, AND Van Halen, have not been inducted.

And that would apply to Black Sabbath as well. Even though they have reportedly declined, they are probably also a risky nominee because of the joke they became between 1985 and 1997.

If you watch the documentary "End of the Century", Tommy (Ramone) goes into the RNRHOF a bit, and how it operates. Pretty eye opening as to some of the inner goings-on there.

Exactly the point. Van Halen became an average rock band in 1986, and while there are plenty of average rock bands in the RNRHOF, most of them have had at least one hit that resonates with most of America...you hear it, you know it, you identify it...with Van Halen post 1986, that's not the case...there's nothing Van Hagar did that achieved any sort of legendary status...mostly just forgettable radio hits than came and went...and after 1991, that all but dried up for 'em...

The most recognizable Van Halen song to the general American public is Jump, and it's David's trademark...without the DLR edge, the RNRHOF will continue to snub Van Halen, I feel.

Far as I see it, the RRHOF has about as much to do with rock as the Hard Rock Cafe and Rolling Stone magazine...fucking bunk. Big Troubles nailed it; Van Halen doesn't need to be validated by anything other than my own ears.

Even hypothesizing what would go down if VH were inducted, far as the ceremony went, doesn't give me cause to celebrate. The thought of Hagar standing up there grinning alongside Ed and Al just makes me wanna puke, regardless of Dave being there or not. Knowing the Van Halens, they'd probably wanna play a Van Hagar song, which would just be insult on top of injury. Or the coup de grace in Ed's mind, that being just him and Al up there accepting the award. Best that could be hoped for is maybe seeing the CVH lineup playing Jump. Fuck that shit. CVH should either reunite with the intention of taking it all the way or just leave it alone. RRHOF is gayness.
