    Alex Van Halen auction

Looks like he's selling off most of his equipment. Does this mean he's hanging it up permanently?

Wouldn't surprise me if professionally Alex Van Halen is all done...he hasn't done anything publicly drumming-wise far as I can remember since the last Van Halen tour, and that was almost a decade ago.

You know, who the fuck knows if he even has a kit set up at home and bothers to as much as fiddle around on it for 15 minutes here and there once in a blue moon? Or how long all that stuff being auctioned has sat gathering dust?

I know the older I get, the less 'stuff' I desire to surround myself with., and I don't even have a fraction of the bank Alex Van Halen does.

First item(s) to catch my eye - the burnt gong mallets.
Saw them and immediately thought of the live Oakland 1981 Unchained video.
I would absolutely use it to air-gong away whenever I watched that video.

Alex has been done professionally for some time now. Aside from previous plans for a CVH tour (2017-18, 2019) and the planned tribute show or shows, he hasn't done anything since 2015.

As far as his possessions go, some of the stuff seems very personal like the record sales awards that were for either to himself or even to his parents. I would feel weird to own an award for say Van Halen II record sales that were given to Ed and Al's parents.

Even as far as the possessions go, like...I could maybe see buying an entire kit of Alex's from the CVH era. Like, THAT would be a jaw-dropper to walk into someone's house and see.

If I walked into someone's house and they had a single cymbal affixed to a plaque mounted on a wall and said, "Like that? That's one of Alex Van Halen's cymbals!!" I'd honestly think that was a bit cringeworthy. Or, say, buying one of Alex's gong mallets.

Strange, it looks like none of the awards from the Hagar era are up for sale.
Looks like he's keeping the Canadian gold record for ADKOT, which I assume he got.

As regards the gold and platinum records what we we would think of as unique priceless artefacts to Alex will be a lot more throwaway. The artist themselves very often pay for these things themselves or you can bet Warner Brothers would award them to band members and then take the cost back off the bottom line no doubt adding a premium. You'll notice that there is at least one with his parents names on it. You can get more than one for these for whoever and whenever so there could be a platinum VH1 album with 1 million on it but he maybe has another that says 5 million or 8 or 9 million. Maybe one every other year between 1978 and it going diamond.
