    $1,000 a ticket?

    For that show?

Jesus. Even for 2nd row seating, that sounds high.

What the fuck do I know? I still think concert tickets should be $15 circa 1984.

Back in the late 70's and early 80's.... I thought $15 a ticket was a rip off!!

Got tickets from a scalper outside the stadium the night of the Stones show in 1989, paid $50 a ticket.

Thought $50 a ticket for the Stones in 1989 was a bit of a rip-off, but also figured "well, this will probably be the last time they tour ever, so..."

You don’t accomplish what he’s done in business being laid back. He’s not the surfer supporting his lifestyle by selling drugs. Sam is a shark. It’s why the Van Hagar stuff is being repackaged and sold. It’s why nothing comes from the classic VH camp. There’s no greedy hungry drive there.
Sam must have been giddy with sheer delight when he first got that call from Ed in 1985.

Cause now he had a vehicle he could really get behind and make a lot of money on. Sam is an opportunist. VH was the biggest American band at the time. He walked into a goldmine. Sure, it could have easily failed. But it was all timing.

Yup. Sam never misses an opportunity. Ray Daniel’s wanted Sam out of Van Halen because Sam was too smart. Ray wanted full control of the band because the Van Halen’s would be easy to manipulate but Sam wouldn’t be. Ray miscalculated on Cherone. He was not a classic rocker type. He did see Sammy as replaceable but he had the wrong replacement. Sam is dumb like a fox. The guy knows how to play the game.

I mean, I guess, but as you pointed out in another thread...this tour is basically just a Chickenfoot tour, when you get right down to it, with John Bonham's kid substituting for the dude from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Wasn't that the lineup in Chickenfoot? Hagar, Anthony, Satriani and...Chad Smith? Surely swapping Smith for Bonham and getting Satriani in there as opposed to the Bus Boys guitarist...surely those two changes don't elevate the business to $1,000 a ticket?

Well, I just went on a site selling tickets for the next Hagar show in Las Vegas, and the tickets for the floor seating in the section directly in front of the stage were going for $1,085 per ticket. Fuck me, I guess I was wrong. Apparently, this is worth over a thousand dollars to someone.

The other thing I just noticed watching one of the clips of this tour - which doubtless others have already seen and commented on - is that Hagar has this official logo for the tour that is basically a semi-vague visual rip off of the classic Van Halen logo. It's being used on t shirts, advertisements and as part of the stage backdrop for the tour.

I joined Roth Army in 2004, one of those particularly unbearable years to go through when you were a CVH fan. The right place to be was here, if you wanted to express your dismay and read accurate comments about the mess (the "trainwreck") Ed and Al, and the tarnished Van Halen brand were going through. Sure it wasn't Van Halen.
Now, 20 years later, this so-called tribute to Ed, as someone here pointed it out but I couldn't find who, where and when, is nothing else but about Spammy's fucking self. That's for sure.
The way it seems to take place is a real shame, like shitting on Ed's and the band's legacy. It's worse than 20 years ago because we don't have anything left to hope for (3 years later, in 2007, Dave was back and stayed for 8 years). And Spam is finally sullying the legend, using the word "tribute" as an excuse for his own ego trip.
What can be done after that to erase that offence? Nothing, I'm afraid.
Besides, maybe it isn't that important. Van Halen's legacy - to which Spammy doesn't belong - is way too high to be tainted by that circus Hagar is the clown of.

As you say, Van Halen's legacy is way too high to be tainted by Hagar. That was as true in 1985 as it is today: to me, 'Van Halen' was over when Roth left.

Van Halen's legacy is way too high to the point where Roth going off both the deep end AND his meds these days can't taint it.

Shit, even Eddie at his career low point circa 2004-2006 couldn't taint it, despite him at that time seemingly doing his best to do so.

But, yes, as you say, despite the enduring nature of Van Halen's legacy, it IS a shame how Hagar's tour this year has tried to attach itself to Van Halen. Mostly because this tour followed on the heels of whatever that attempt to do something with Roth, Alex, Jason Newsted and Satriani was. Frankly, I was glad when whatever THAT was DIDN'T come to pass. My own mindset being that Eddie is gone, leave well enough alone.

A couple years later, here comes Hagar, dragging out this 'superstar' lineup - a lineup he more or less already had worked with before as a variation of Chickenfoot/The Circle - attaching it all to the name 'Van Halen' and promoting it as a tribute to Eddie Van Halen and the Van Halen group. I guess as a business move it was a smart one, since this tour is seeing him playing slightly larger venues than he otherwise had been for the last 15 years, and if one is aa shameless a self-promoter (as seemingly the entire world is these days) as Hagar is...I mean, doubtless the guy sleeps fine at night. And why shouldn't he? Tickets are selling. Concerts are being performed. When one looks at the general public and how low they are willing to let the bar be set across the board re: rock music over the last quarter century, this current Hagar tour is exactly what semi-geriatric rock fans DESERVE to pay $1000 a ticket to go see.

In a new interview with Las Vegas Review-Journal, Sammy Hagar once again discussed his ongoing summer 2024 tour with bassist Michael Anthony, guitarist Joe Satriani and drummer Jason Bonham that focuses largely on the music of VAN HALEN. The 2024 tour comes more than two years after Satriani reveal...

"Regarding if there was any attempt made to see if Alex would be interested in taking part in "The Best Of All Worlds" prior to getting Bonham involved, Hagar said: "I reached out to Alex a dozen times, before this tour was announced, and got no response. I mean, I've asked him to meet me under any conditions, any circumstances, anytime, anyplace, anywhere. It's not like, 'Well, let me think about it.' It's like, no answer. Zero."

According to Hagar, he was willing to offer Van Halen the spotlight "to just play a couple of songs, or if you want to be the drummer the whole night, or be the executive producer. [Laughs] What do you want to do?"

Hagar went on to say that Alex's upcoming autobiography, "Brothers", may have something to do with the drummer's lack of communication about a possible appearance on the tour.

"I'm sure when he made his book deal, they said, 'You cannot talk to Dave [Lee Roth, original VAN HALEN singer], and you cannot talk to Hagar," Sammy said. "I guarantee you, that that was part of the deal."

So now it's because of Al's upcoming book.

I highly doubt Al's forthcoming book has anything to do with him ghosting Hagar... also doubt any publisher gives a rat's ass about Alex talking to Dave or Hagar...

My opinion... Hagar ran his mouth far too many times disrespecting Edward Van Halen and using EVH as subject matter to draw attention to himself.

Alex loved his brother and most likely reached a point where he felt everyday Hagar walks this earth is a good day for Sammy to go fuck himself... Good for Alex...

You could see Al had become the more mature member of Van Halen in his later years. Al grew up. He will tell the Van Halen story from his perspective in the book and that’s that.

Sam is a very hungry opportunist. Ed said he’s all about the money. It’s more than that. Sam wants the legacy and he figures he promotes he was the singer in Van Halen long enough he will end up with it. It’s pretty sick when you see where his mind is. This is no tribute. This is a legacy steal attempt.

Why Al isn’t giving Sam the time of day is Sam publicly slagged Ed when the guy was at his lowest low. Divorced, addicted and full of cancer. The reason that tour with Sammy happened was Ed’s family thought the responsibility of having to do shows would snap Ed out of his funk. Of course they could get Sam to sing because it’s $$$$$ and being the singer for VH. Sam knew the deal with Ed but slagged him anyways.
